The Red Sox acquired Brent Dlugach from Detroit for a player to be named later or cash considerations, according to the Tigers (on Twitter). The 27-year-old shortstop batted .258/.303/.360 at Triple-A this year. He had three plate appearances for the Tigers in 2009, but has spent the rest of his seven-year pro career in the minor leagues. Detroit drafted Dlugach in the sixth round of the 2004 draft.

YES! This makes picking up ortiz’ option so much better!

With the moves boston has made today you would think they are heavy world series favorties. Yankees must respond quickly

I don’t see any promise here unless they really don’t want to spend more money after the Ortiz ordeal.
Mr__Bill
He’s likely just organizational depth. Not much upside here, if any. I can’t imagine we’ll see any real talent head to the Tigers in return.

Who knew Dlugach was even available? Theo keeps surprising us with these headline deals!

This COULD make backup SS Lowrie available… who knows

This is only a move to call up Jose Iglesias during mid-season.

Another roster/non prospect type player to clutter up Pawtucket this year more than likely in case somebody gets hurt in Boston.
Carl Pavano
He’s no Nick Green.

Press release from DD: The Tigers have decided to not have any shortstops in their entire system for 2011. Instead we will be going with an unprecedented strategy that has two pitchers on the field at all times.
Fangaffes
This is a real head-scratcher, unless they’re going to trade Scutaro and give the SS job to Lowrie. It just seems like he’ll clog things up at AAA, with Navarro and Iglesias both needing time.
LifeLongYankeeFan
What the hell so much for signing Jeter and then trading him to the Tigers for Dlugach. Lets just not sit on our hands here Yankees make some damn moves.

Ughhh why do Red Sox fans always complain whenever a AAA depth move is made? It’s so lame. You people do realize that the Red Sox need to fill the minor league roster with some players, and not every player will be an elite prospect? Sometimes you need journeymen types. This move has nothing to do with Scutaro or Lowrie. Also the Red Sox are going to give Lowrie the SS job and keep Scutaro around because of Lowrie’s injury history.
Fangaffes
Im puzzled because Navarro is already at AAA and better than this guy. And Iglesias will be at AAA either out of spring training or shortly thereafter. I’m all for depth, but this seems like the wrong position for it. Unless there’s a trade coming.
ugen64
someone could move to 3B or 2B, someone could get traded or cut…
z3rogs
The Rex Sox should be banned from making minor moves. Only blockbuster deals that clearly establish the club as World Series favorites will be allowed from here forward.

This must be the missing piece needed in the Agon trade
