The Mets formally introduced Terry Collins as their new manager today. Here's the latest on Collins and the team he'll take over (all links go to Twitter):
- Collins' deal runs through 2012 with an option for 2013, according to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News.
- Mets GM Sandy Alderson told Jim Bowden of Siruis XM Radio that the Mets don't have untouchables, but aren't likely to trade David Wright, Ike Davis or Jason Bay.
- Alderson also said the Mets could spend over-slot on the draft if necessary.
- The Mets expect Francisco Rodriguez to be the closer in 2011, Alderson told Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com. K-Rod has a 2012 option that vests based on games finished and health, but Alderson says that won't affect the way the team handles him.

I’d say Bay is closer to “untradable” than “untouchable.”

Bay can’t be traded because of that contract.

…the Mets don’t have untouchablesSure we do! We got Oliver Pérez. I wouldn’t touch him with anything….except for the hook that gets him the hell outta Flushing!

Am I the only one who finds it odd that Jose Reyes was not mentioned with the players not likely to be traded?
Pawsdeep
Did they even excersise their option on him??
That’s a really good point considering that it would be the last year or his contract and he might be demanding a hefty raise.
stl_cards16
I believe they picked up the option and said they would look into an extension down the road. I would of thought he would of been one of the few mentioned as not likely to be traded though.

I would term it as extremely unlikely…..but if contract talks don’t go well, you never know.
Infield Fly
Yes they picked up his option a few weeks ago….and thus began the conjecture about “will he stay or will he go??” Interested people want to know!
Infield Fly
Hardly. Seems to me they’ve been [quietly] taking a look at possibly trading him. So if you’re one of those Redbird fans just jonesing for some José-José-José, you might just get your wish.
For my sake I hope not. While his OBP is not what one would wish, I’m not gonna lie – I DEFINITELY got a need for speed! 😀

Reyes would be a good fit with the Cardinals, no doubt about it. However I would see us as a longshot if Reyes was on the block. They seem very hesitant to give up any prospects right now, and I really doubt they would part with what it would take to land Reyes. I just figured he and Wright were the two that would be kept regaurdless.

The tigers are looking for an outfielder and are more apt for a salary trade that a prospect clearing blockbuster.
Bay to Detroit would make some sense. It sounds like some wacky idea DD would come up with and he would be a power bat in the outfield that would cost less than Crawford and possibly Werth
Shawn K
Burnett for Bay. Get it done CashMan…
Infield Fly
Better yet: take Bay and you can KEEP Burnett. Hop on it!
Translation: don’t make me hurl, dude. I don’t want AJ any closer to the Mets than da Bronx. We got enough problems as it is!! 😀
zack
i don’t know about you, but i’m definitely expecting a comeback season for bay next year

I’ve heard from a couple of people that have friends that work in the organization that the Mets would like to sign Reyes to an extension and Ricco was handling that while Alderson was being interviewed and then hired. Supposedly, Ricco and Reyes’ agent agreed to a 5-year outline, but all of the details haven’t been worked out, which makes sense given how busy Sandy’s been. Obviously, you’re more than welcome to take it with a grain of salt, but I figured I’d just pass it along. Everything else I’ve heard from these guys from their “sources” has happened.

Beltran & 10 million(he’s owed 18mill in 2011) to Astros for LHP W.Rodriguez?

if some1 is willing to eat up Bay’s contract( Tigers or Red Sox)… i say make the trade!
