Mets GM Interviews Start This Week

By Tim Dierkes | October 11, 2010 at 2:55pm CDT

The Mets will interview Sandy Alderson, Rick Hahn, Allard Baird, and Josh Byrnes this week for their general manager vacancy, according to Dan Martin of the New York Post.  David Lennon of Newsday tweets that it's Baird today, Hahn on Tuesday, Byrnes on Wednesday, and Alderson on Thursday or Friday.  Martin adds that a team official told him other candidates could be added to the list.

Alderson is "perceived to be the favorite," writes SI's Jon Heyman.  Heyman notes that Alderson has longtime ties to Mets owner Fred Wilpon, as well as support from fans and media members.  Andy Martino of the New York Daily News, however, puts on the brakes and provides four tough questions for Alderson that he'd like to see answered.

Baird’s last stint as a GM was characterized as helping run the Royals into the ground. If the Mets wanted that they’d keep Minaya around.

Also, in terms of the Letterhead and such, Sandy Alderson is much easier to spell.

Now I know you’ve been unsure which horse to back… but I’m guessing you finally decided you like Alderson?

When have the Royals been OUT of the ground since the mid 80’s?

I’m pretty sure hiring a Kodiak Bear as GM would be better than Omar Minaya.

Also more intimidating at the Winter Meetings.

Alderson is very obviously the top choice, not because he’s damn good, but because he, rather surprisingly, wants to be there. He could turn the Mets into a contender, but he’s going to step on some toes while he does it.

Rick Hahn will be a very good GM but he will demand payroll flexibility and autonomy from ownership in order to do his job. I don’t think the Wilpons are able to give those things to him.

I think that the one person that would have been perfect was Kevin Towers. They just waited until the end of the season. I am sorry to say this but this year is a rebulidng year for the mets. They got there bullpen picecs when you think about it. Felicano is there macth up Lefty. Parnell is either there closer or there 8th inning Picther. Mejia is either there Closer or number 8th as well i would trade Kr Rod to the Tigers for Rick Perry or Bonderman

Why would the Tigers trade Rick Perry to The Mets for K-Rod? And I think Bonderman’s a free agents.
