Three American League GMs told Jon Heyman of SI.com that they believe their team's stars deserve to win the MVP. Miguel Cabrera, Josh Hamilton and Robinson Cano all have strong cases for the award, but if Heyman had asked Theo Epstein or Alex Anthopoulos, there's a good chance he would have heard Adrian Beltre or Jose Bautista mentioned, too. Here are Heyman's latest rumors:
- The Rays hope to re-sign Carlos Pena this offseason, though it looks like Carl Crawford and Rafael Soriano will sign elsewhere. Crawford recently told Yahoo’s Jeff Passan that he’s open to signing anywhere and indicated that he realizes he isn’t likely to return to Tampa Bay.
- Jose Reyes would like to sign long-term in New York. It looks like he’ll be negotiating his deal with a new general manager; Heyman reported earlier today that Omar Minaya will not be the Mets GM for long.
- Speaking of GMs, Heyman adds Blue Jays exec Tony LaCava to his list of potential GM candidates. Heyman reports that the Blue Jays have about 14-15 managerial candidates, including Bob Melvin, Don Baylor, Yankees coach Rob Thomson and Brian Butterfield.

I’m a huge fan of José-José-José, however he’s dropped the ball [literally, yesterday], and in more ways than one. Having seen similar mental lapses like that from him in the past, I would like see him earn that long-term contract (and our confidence) by signing a shorter one, then going out and proving that he can keep his eye on the ball, his mind on the game, and himself off the DL.

What you’re asking from Reyes is maturity. I’m not a fan of his, but I admire his passion, desire and his physical abilities. What drives me nuts, as well as many others, is his juvenile behavior at times. Those mental lapses you mentioned have occured since day one, and at this point, it should have stopped by now. He’s been playing a good number of years to continue as such. All that being said,he should get a good contract, the Mets won’t get equal value for him if they don’t re-sign him. And as for the DL, the last two years have been hard, but he’s always played just about everyday and given it his all. Hopefully he grows up and bounces back in ‘011.

I can definitely see LaCava being snatched up for a GM position. A lot of people thought that he would get Toronto’s job when Ricciardi was let go, and he probably would have been just as deserving as Anthopoulos.

I think the mets could actually trade Jose Reyes for some good talent. He’s obviously not where he was back in 2006-2007 but he has had a good season this year and you could assume that he’s got a good 3-4 years left in him. Love Jose, but the sooner you trade him, the better prospects you get.
