The Twins have designated right-hander Matt Fox for assignment, according to a team release. The move clears a spot on the Twins' roster for Ben Revere, who was selected from Double-A.
Fox, 27, made his first big league start this weekend, pitching 5.2 solid innings against the Rangers on Friday night. Revere, meanwhile, was Minnesota's first-round pick (28th overall) in the 2007 draft and was ranked by Baseball America as the team's fifth-best prospect prior to the season. In 406 plate appearances at Double-A New Britain this year, the 22-year-old hit .305/.371/.363 with 36 stolen bases.

I bet the Rangers try to pick him up after he shut them down on Friday… perhaps it was a good job interview.

i don’t know why they had to designate fox when they have a 22-year-old high-a shortstop taking up a roster spot who probably won’t get claimed. you can never have enough pitching

I have to assume that this is a roster juggling move and that they have no intention of letting him go. He made quite an impression on Friday and the Twins (like every team) need young starting pitching in reserve.

No empty spots on the 40-man. If he didn’t get DFA’d now, he’d get DFA’d when Morneau comes off of the DL.

love to see the pirates get their hands on him he seems to be marginally better than the bums we have starting for us now.

The funny thing is, ESPN just had a piece about how the Twins are running out of pitching, which is why Fox had to make the start in the first place. The writer for the sports leader all but guaranteed a Rangers win, but Fox sure showed ’em. Now, Fox gets DFA’d, does that mean the Twins have all of a sudden found pitching?
Funny game, this.
