Sunday links, as the Rays look to extend their league-best winning streak to five games….
- Andy Pettitte tells Newsday's Ken Davidoff that his participation in the government's indictment of Roger Clemens won't impact his baseball future. The 38-year-old also says he doesn't expect to still be playing at age 40.
- Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post tweets that the Marlins have no timetable for when they'll hire a permanent manager, though they have a short list of four or five candidates.
- Like teammate Jeremy Bonderman, Gerald Laird isn't sure whether he'll be a Tiger next year. "If a better opportunity presents itself, I'll probably take that route," the backstop told Tom Gage of the Detroit News (Twitter link)
- GM Neal Huntington discusses the Pirates' upcoming offseason with Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, noting that the club may pursue a platoon partner for Garrett Jones at first base.
- Peter Schmuck of the Baltimore Sun wonders if the Orioles will aggressively go after an impact bat this winter.

Laird is gone for sure

No question. It will be fun to see if they go after a catcher like Napoli or stick with Avila

It’s very hard to find backstops with a good arm, and can actually hit these days

I chuckle immensely every time I stumble across one of these stories where a member of the Pirates front office discusses platooning Garrett Jones. As a non-Pirate fan that has seen his fair share of the 2010 Pirates, I would rank Jones’ struggles to hit lefthanded pitchers productively perhaps 38th on the list of things that are most in need of fixing with the Pirates organization. Don’t the Pirates have more pressing issues to address?

So, if Ely’s not in the rotation, then the rotation is Billingsley, Kershaw, who? Monestarios? The Dodgers make 3 free agent signings? Elbert comes back?

His x-FIP is barely 4. Hate this team and FO right now.

I think the big bat the orioles should try to get is Adam Dunn. Dunn would be stupid to not try free agency before hooking back up with Nationals. The Orioles should offer him 4 years 60 million. He would not have to make a huge move from DC to Baltimore.

The Orioles should then offer Manny Ramirez 1 year 10 million dollars to play LF. I know he is getting old but the man knows how to get to the playoffs and he knows how to hit. Then also try to bring Wigginton back for 1 year 6.5 million. And for the big pitcher we go after it should be Brandon Webb. Lets give him a another chance. He is great when healthy. Lets offer him 1 year 7 million plus a one year op for 10 million.

Line up could look like this 1: Roberts 2B 2: Markakis RF 3: Ramirez LF 4: Dunn 1B
5: Scott DH 6: Wigginton 3B 7: Wieters C 8: Jones CF 9: Andino SS
PLAYOFF LINEUP!!!!!!!!!!! We will have spent 38.5 million dollars on 2011 by free agents. We could spend like 60. But we are saving that for a big trade or FA in 2012.

If the Dodgers don’t want Ely, I’d love for the Pirates to get him.

So what about playing when you’re 39 years old Pettitte lol. I think he’ll come back next year if the Yankees sign Cliff Lee what a top 3 that would be. CC Sabathia, Cliff Lee and Andy Pettitte.

the future of baltimore can look ok not sure about dunn why not go after fielder and sign a guy like lilly its pretty obvious millwood wont be back or even webb though for a yr plus options cuz you never know with surgery.its so tiring though always the same teams in the playoffs in the AL would be nice to see baltimore or toronto really make some moves cuz both nyy and boston by 2013 would both be aged pretty much regardless

The Orioles dont want Manny Ramirez that is a stupid statement.
Considering our outfield is already set.
