Here are some links to check out on a very muggy Monday night in New York..
- So far, it appears that the Cardinals are getting more than their money's worth when it comes to Matt Holliday, says Jack Moore of Fangraphs.
- Arizona will begin their GM search in earnest on Tuesday when they interview Dodgers' scouting director Logan White, writes Jack Magruder of FoxSportsArizona.com.
- Bill Madden of the New York Daily News wants to see the Mets hire Kevin Towers as GM and Lee Mazzilli as manager.
- A reader asked John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer (via Twitter) why the club didn't designate Aaron Harang for assignment instead of Enerio Del Rosario. Fay believes that it has to do with when the Reds want to pay the starter his buyout of $2MM.
- Toronto manager Cito Gaston isn't having second thoughts about retiring at season's end, writes Pete Kerzel for MLB.com.
- Pirates GM Neal Huntington told Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com that picking up reliever Chris Leroux was a moderate risk worth taking.

Oh thank god.
I do not want Cito back again.

Beat me to it. Cito has become such a dumbass that he belongs with the Mets as a Manager.

Gee, thanks awfully for thinking of us dude, but the Mets have a full house of dumb-asses as it is. Let me refer you to the rest of the League. Spread the ‘love’!
Encarnacion's Parrot
Sorry bud. I like the Mets, but their FO make it easy to pick on them :p
I’m really trying to think of another team to ‘spread the love’ but nothing is coming to me. Maybe the Astros. Their GM has made some numpty moves.
Infield Fly
Ooooh yeah, they sure do! Hence my “full house” comment. Still, don’t be so quick to put it all on Omar. These days it’s pretty common knowledge that Jeff Wilpon’s been at the wheel for the past year or so – wearing an “Omar suit” so you can’t recognize him!
Meanwhile, let me cast my vote for the folks on the north side of Chicago. Not exactly a convention of geniuses up there either.

moonraker45
why would you say that? Honestly the guy has the biggest balls in the game. bats a potential 35 hr prospect lead off, benches a rookie catcher because of lack of game calling experience and brings in brian tallet in the ninth inning of a tie game and leaves him in for 3 innings.
Who else do you know that has the stones to pull off moves like that?
Henry Castellanos
Travis Snider shouldn’t be hitting lead-off…

Please, try having Bobo Geren as your manager.

I think Donald Sutherland would make a badass manager.

IDK WTF Joe Girardi is so enamored with Sergio Mitre. That guy has been nothing but horrible! I’m not a bandwagon fan and i’m most certainly not spoiled. But if Girardi goes to Chicago take Mitre with you! And PLEASE let the door hit him on his pitching arm on the way out, his finger gets stuck, breaks, and never pitches again!

Sure is but the fact that this is even in question is because if the Yankees can’t beat the Rays, they sure as heck do not deserve the East! It’s one thing to go from an 8 Game winning streak without A-Rod, it’s one thing to have him back ever since and hit like .170 w/ RISP, it’s sure is another thing to have virtually the best offense in baseball as stats show, yet, we can’t do smack and choke at the worst possible time. Tommorow is a new day though, and we can still win the series, but I would rather not watch them load the bases 3 straight innings and not getting one run across the effing board! And no I’m not a bandwagon fan again, I just get very frustrated at the horrible baseball the Yanks are playing.

Have the antacid handy. The recent problem with the Yanks is really so simple that everyone seems to have over looked it. Age and fatigue. We all will acknowledge that the team is talented but not older. Everyone sees Jeter, Posada, A-Rod et. al as the modern day boys of summer, but in reality, they’re all past their prime. couple that with the fatigue factor, and you have the reason for the current poor play. Jeter has played 140 games of the team’s 144 games this year, most of them in the field, at age 36. Tex,who is younger 141, mostly at 1B. Posada, approaching 40, has played 106 games, the games he’s missed are due to injury. A-Rod is 34 and has played 116 games, mostly at 3B, and the games missed also due to injury. Couple that with the way the manager has used the Bullpen, mixing and matching from the 6th inning on, and you have burn out. The recent series in Texas is a glaring example of that. The Yanks looked slow, old and lost againist the Rangers in that 90 degrees Texas heat.Texas, ayounger team accustomed to the heat, ran around, past and through the Yanks in every phase of the game. Make no mistake, they are not as good as NY, but right now, they’re fresher! This post is not a panic alarm or such. The Yanks know how to win and still have the heart of Champs, as evidenced by their performance againist Price and Tampa the next night. Still, they need to regroup physically, and quick, the race is not over. Boston is still in the rear view mirror

So the cardinals still overpaid for holliday… But at least he’s worth much more.

EDIT: The Cards overpayed for Mr. Holliday’s services, his contract should be at least what Pujols should have gotten or more. Don’t see how the Cards are gonna carry all these big contracts, they’re paying Carpenter, they are going to have to pay Adam Wainwright. Not to even mention Albert. What to do John Mo, what?
NL_East_Rivalry
To have all those guys with all that talent in that division and not win… just glad their fan base is strong enough to survive this kind of production, maybe next year they will make it and their payroll rise.

So Holliday lived up to his contract in year one… Let’s see an article in 5 years about him living up to it, then I’ll pay attention…
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a lifetime Cards fan and I’ve always loved Holliday (and I loved seeing Walker here, although he was very late in his career) but I still think we overpaid for Holliday…
On the other hand, if overpaying for a longtime 4 hitter for Pujols means that he (El Hombre) is willing to stay here then it’s worth every cent.

I dont really like to comment much but david price is a cy young candidate as is cc sure he is a young guy but he was a number one pic.im not a biased fan though I loved tampa since the sturtze kennedy and zambrano days along with grieve and vaughn.I see in 3 yrs tampa will have so many of there guys in the mlb tampa is progressing in 3 years there gonna be scary.as for the blue jays they would be a playoff team in another division i mean they can mash and have a solid rotation morrow marcum romero cecil I think they should look into getting someonme fredi gonzalez comes to mind for me

Neil, signing Brandon Webb to a 2 year deal would be a moderate risk also. Those are the moves you SHOULD be making.
