Some more links for Tuesday as two of the game's best second basemen – Chase Utley and Dustin Pedroia – return to action…
- Reds GM Walt Jocketty told MLB.com's Barry Bloom that Micah Owings requested that the Reds try to trade him to another MLB organization. The Reds, who designated Owings for assignment today, will try to trade Owings.
- Daniel Barbarisi of the Providence Journal projects Boston’s 2014 roster.
- The Yankees agreed to sign Dominican shortstop Christopher Tamarez for $650K, according to Ben Badler of Baseball America. BA has video of the wiry 16-year-old.
- Craig Counsell told Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that he would not object to being traded to a contender. MLBTR's Tim Dierkes analyzed the market for Counsell, who cleared waivers yesterday.
- The Rays signed former big league pitcher Bobby Livingston, according to the International League's transactions page. The Dodgers recently released the left-hander.
- Teams are calling the Cubs about Derrek Lee and others, according to Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com. Lee, who can veto any deal, turned down a trade to the Angels last month.

Come on, Ben, don’t forget about Martin Prado! We’ve got THREE of the best second baseman coming back tonight.
redsox4120
Could the Red Sox be one of the teams calling about Lee? They could use a power bat at first to platoon with Lowell.
Sniderlover
Wouldn’t they want a leftie if that was the case?
And I think they may look at internal options first in Delgado or even Lars Anderson.
redsox4120
Good point. I think Delgado is going to be gone by September 1 and I think Theo is reluctant to bring up Lars, he seems like he needs more time in the minors.

Unless injured my bet is Delgado is at least on the 40 man roster by Sept 1st when the rosters expand. At the very least he gives the Sox a warm body on the bench. And unless the 40 man roster I’m looking at is wrong, the Sox do have space… only 39 men on the 40 man roster, one of which is on the 60-day DL, which gives them 2 open spots.

You can dream on.. I don’t think Lee is going anywhere. He already vetoed one trade.

I would love to see the Braves get Lee. They need someone to replace the ineffective Glaus.
Bob George
DLee not only is having a very rough season, but his lower back and neck keep bothering him (which might be a reason for such a bad year). He’s taking 3 days off in hopes he can play regularly again starting Thursday.

Did anyone see the videos of the Dominican players?
Steve Geddie
I understand that he played third, but overlooking Prado’s return is grounds for divorce….
Heyward_Homer
yeah missing Prado on the headline is BRUTAL…especially since Pedroia and Utter went combines 0fer 9, and Martin a robust 3-5 with 3 runs and 2 rbis
kevinmo1
Don’t diss the return of the LASER SHOW!
Brian Culpin
First of all, Prado only missed like 15 games…his injury wasn’t as significant as Utley’s and Pedroia’s, who missed a combined 89 games….secondly — Prado, who had less rust, faced Scott Olsen while Utley faced Barry Zito and Pedroia faced Jared Weaver…so stop trying to compare the 3
Prado is going to be a great player but he has yet to play a full season. Not saying he doesn’t belong in the ranks of Pedroia/Utley but you have to give him at least a full season to gain the respect he deserves.

It’s not like the guy just called up. He has 1222 at-bats in the bigs… 450 last year. I see what you’re saying, but I think at this point Prado has established himself. Ask any scout in baseball and I think he’ll tell you that Prado belongs right up there with the best second basemen in the league.
Brian Culpin
Yeah, I understand that…but there’s a big difference between playing less than 100 games and then playing 150+…He played 128 games last year (career high) and will likely play close to 140 this year…I fully expect him to perform at the level he’s currently playing at but all I’m saying is people will be hesitant to include him in the same sentence as Pedroia/Utley until he is a full-time player…..right now, he’s on his way there…but he’s not there yet
spudrock512
Do anybody know what the Cubs were going to get in return for DLee from the Angels? I don’t think I ever saw, but it would have been nice to see Lee go.

That Projo article was full of FAIL. Anyone can look at the Red Sox’s major league/minor league rosters and put the best players together. Bad reporting, no thought into the article.
woadude
I agree, I especially liked the part where he assumes the Red Sox dont trade or get anyone from the free agent market

If I was a GM, I’d try to sign Owings to a minor league deal and convert him to a position player, just to see how he hits. The guy can launch one. Not sure where they’d put him, but I’m just too darn curious.
Triteon
I, too, would not object to being traded to a contender.
Mike E.
The fact that Jacoby Ellsbury is on that list playing Centerfield makes it instantly wrong. There is NO WAY he is back next year.
woadude
Dont go as crazy as the guy who wrote the article, if anything Jacoby just dropped value, in arbitration he will get a raise but nothing to what it would of been had he not been injured all year, he will be back and depending on how his 2011 pans out, he could sign an extention and be the force on the base paths that he is accustomed to.
