Sunday links, as Charlie Morton hopes to avoid becoming the Pirates' fifth pitcher this season with double-digit losses….
- Jon Paul Morosi tweets that he spoke with a source who believes that the Twins are done trading, following their acquisition of Brian Fuentes from the Angels, but notes that it's hard to be 100% certain. Morosi suggested they could be a fit for Troy Glaus earlier today.
- While trading Francisco Rodriguez would be good for the Mets, it won't be easy, writes Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Sherman stops short of labeling K-Rod an "untradeable player," but says he's pretty close.
- ESPN.com's Buster Olney (Insider-only link) praises the Twins' acquisition of Brian Fuentes and suggests the government ought to formally investigate whether the Marlins lied to taxpayers about their finances.
- Alex Speier of WEEI.com details Rafael Soriano's unlikely path to Tampa last winter, noting how crucial the closer has been to the Rays' success.
- In his weekly Baseball Notes piece, Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe discusses Manny Ramirez, Dusty Baker, and the Indians, among other topics.

Actually Rodriguez only needs 54 games finished to have his option guaranteed since he finished 46 this year. Not a big difference, but still.

Actually, Cot’s says he has to finish 55 in 2010, AND 100 in 2010+2011, AND be declared healthy after 2011.
So that means they all must occur. If he doesn’t hit 55 this year, he’s toast.

“2012 option becomes guaranteed with:
-55 games finished in 2011, and
-100 games finished in 2010-11, and
-doctors declare Rodriguez healthy after 2011”
I dont see anything about finishing 55 games in 2010

My how the mighty have fallen. Just a couple of years ago K-Rod set the record for saves in a single season. Now he is close to untradeable.

Wow… it took Morton exactly 1 inning to blow a 2 run lead.

This is a perfect example of a guy wth great stuff who has no idea how to be a pitcher…just a thrower. If only he could learn how to use his stuff he coul be a very special pitcher.

Still, the Cubs should send Zambrano over for him. Get a legit bullpen arm and swap expensive head cases. They would save money this way, too.

If the Mets would pick up most of next years money, I would take K-Rod (if healthy) on my team for 2011 and make him my 8th inning guy.
That way he will never have his option vest for 2012.

get rid of Loria and put in someone who knows how to handle a baseball team!!!!

Does anyone really take anything Nick Cafardo says seriously? I mean, yeah we all know the Indians are bad…but did he really just suggest we have “nothing” coming up in the way of talent? He mentioned Lou freakin Marson but doesn’t even mention Carlos Santana? He does realize that Marson is only here because the Red Sox Ryan Kalish doesn’t know how to slide and took out Santana right? Talks about a utility infielder Andy Marte…but no mention of top 20 prospect in all of baseball Lonnie Chisenhall? Or Jason Kipnis who is having a better year than #2 overall pick Dustin Ackely? And Ignoring how much the Tribe has missed Grady?
Yes, the Indians suck….but nothing coming? wow.
Patattack
He obviously didn’t bother to look at the top 5 farm system ranking.
