The Diamondbacks can trade Adam LaRoche to any team now that he has cleared waivers, but he isn't drawing much interest, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). That's a little surprising given the first baseman's 21 homers and .273/.340/.493 line, but it won't concern the D'Backs.
As Jack Magruder of FOXSportsArizona.com reported yesterday, the sides have had preliminary discussions about an extension. There's mutual interest in working out a deal, though talks have been general so far. Rosenthal adds that the D'Backs would prefer to sign LaRoche to a favorable extension and move prospect Brandon Allen to left field (Twitter link).
LaRoche makes about $1.1MM between now and the end of the season and there's a $1.5MM buyout on the team's 2011 option to take into consideration, too.

Yeah, that makes no sense…
Brenden
This makes perfect sense. Obviously no contending team needs and even wants to take on Adam LaRoche and $1.1 million might be part in consideration. Lets take a look at the playoff contending teams.Yankees- 1B Mark Texiera, Lance Berkman, and Nick Johnson; no need to even remotly question this decision.Redsox- 1B David Ortiz, Mike Lowell; With lowell back from the DL chances are he will get most games at 1B. Can’t say they shouldn’t but I’ll say they won’t.Rays- Carlos Pena; Unless Pena somehow gets injured, there is absolutely no need to give up young talent.Rangers- Jorge Cantu, Chris Davis; the addition of cantu will result in a no deal for Texas.Sorry need to hurry this up. Whitesox- Konerko, Kotsay; fineTwins- Thome, Cuddyer both can play first
Giants- Aubrey Huff, Travis Ishikawa; I don’t see the giants making another move on the offensive side. Plus Huff is having a decent season.
Reds- Joey Votto; Enough said.
Cardinals- Pujols; unless something crazy happens here, there is absolutely no way they as LaRoche.
Padres- Adrian Gonzalez; Padres and their low payroll will not huck up anything after getting ludwick and Tejada.
Braves- Derek Lee, Hinske; With the recently aquired Lee, the braves have gotten their sure first baseman.
Phillies- Ryan Howard; coming of his injury; The Phillies won’t make a bid.

Uh, Brenden? Berkman & Johnson are on the DL buddy.
alphabet_soup5
They still have Teixiera…and they need to keep their DH spot open for players like Posada, Rodriguez, Thames to play in.
Brenden
thats still no reason to go out and spend money and or prospects for a first basemen, they won’t do it garunteed buddy.

First, Thome playing 1b? Really?? When’s the last time he even put on a glove? Next Kotsay is not fine, believe me. His name is now used a verb form by White Sox fans (i.e. ‘he just Kotsay’d into a double play…”).
The White Sox should DFA Andruw Jones and sign LaRoche as a lefty DH/1b to splite time with Konerko.
Brenden
I guess will play the waitin game then and we will find out that no team will jump for LaRoche, and hey buddy you can’t rule out Thome at first base. He is currently sitting second in the depth chart behind Cuddyer so if Cuddyer get hurt guess whos in? mmm.. lets forget about LaRoche and the twins and talk about the Sox. You really believe Kenny Williams will make a run at LaRoche even after his rant about not needing to go after anyone. Come on man really? Kotsay has been struggly but he has always been a great platoon hitter and fielder.

Gardenhire would be smart enough not to ever put a glove in JT’s hands. He has not played in the field anywhere since he left the Phillies in 2006. As for Kenny, anything is possible. They could DFA Andruw Jones (well worth the 500K this year though) to make room. Laroche would be a definite possibility if Teahen (really another utility guy) can’t get up to speed as a LH bat post injury. Laroche can shift between 1b, DH and RF with Konerko and Quentinto create the rotating DH spot Ozzie envisioned at the start of this year.
Brenden
You make a good point on both subjects. But When in doubt Thome is the go to guy in the field if Cuddyer goes down. If I were Gardenhire I would maybe start getting Kubel familiar with 1B to not only help their ball club in future similiar circumstances but also for trade value need be. As for the White sox, if they were really looking to add a bat to help their club they would have pushed more for Adam Dunn. LaRoche is not a good fit via Teahen coming back with that lefty bat and I can almost definately assume that Beckham is not going to be benched at this point. Do you honestly think this will work? Even after Paul Konerko fathomed the quiet deadline. Konerko doens’t want to split time and shouldn’t either. And Carlos Quinten and Andrew Jones plus Teahen back will fit perectly together. I say no go.
billmelton
Problem is that the White Sox as well as other teams went over and above to get Dunn but Rizzo did not make a smart maove by not trading or extending him. Andruw Jones faded by June and can be DFA’d now. Konerko and Quentin as well as Jones / Kotsay have rotated the DH spot all season. Teahen is too inconsistant still plus Omar has taken over his 3b position. We’re stuck with Teahen but Kotsay and Jones are expendable IMO.
Brenden
I still see maybe Teahen and Jones splitting DH time but lets say they do DFA Jones, Jared Mitchell could come up. I just don’t see why Kenny Williams would start now to look for someone via trade. It’s pretty late right now for that and you always have to look beyond this year. The Whitesox don’t have a lot to work with in the minors and trading any prospects would really hurt. Should something get done and would something get done is the problem here. The should is there but the would isn’t.
billmelton
Problem with that is that Mitchell is still reabbing his ankle from his spring training injury. He may be back in 2011 but he’s not a factor now. If Teahen gets up to speed, they may not need Laroche. That’s a big “if” however.
dirtydez
He’s been a pleasent surprise. Probably the best defensive 1B since Gracie. Still too many K’s in a lineup that. If it’s true he’s signing an extention Reynolds needs to go. Too many K’s in that lineup. Crazy that nobody’s interested with his history after the AS break.
Holidayjesus
I wouldn’t be surprised if he the Sox inquiry on him. He went on a tear during the few games he was with in Boston.
fitz
Sox are out of it.

rofl… especially after tonight. jesus christ jon lester.
fitz
No kidding. At this rate I’m going to be able to score tickets for face value next season with all the pink hats bailing.

Why would Allen move to Left-field… The only reason would be if he end up taking Church’s spot on the roster, but that would only be a part time role…
