A few assorted links, as the trading finally picks up…
- After missing out on Roy Oswalt, the Cardinals are looking elsewhere for pitching, writes Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Mid-level starters like Jake Westbrook or Aaron Cook could be fits for the Cards. The asking price for Cook, says Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, is a bullpen piece and a prospect.
- The Angels don't appear to have made Bobby Abreu available, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney (via Twitter).
- The Mets finalized their over-slot deal with Erik Goeddel, according to Jim Callis of Baseball America (on Twitter). They agreed to give the 21-year-old righty a $350K bonus. MLBTR first reported an agreement had been reached on July 4th.
- The Dodgers designated Jack Taschner for assignment according to Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times (via Twitter).
- The Astros released Tommy Everidge to make room for Brett Wallace, according to the Round Rock Express website.
- Teams have asked the Brewers about Jim Edmonds, according to Scott Miller of CBS Sports.
- GM Doug Melvin tells Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that things are quiet for the Brewers right now.
- The Rangers pursued Roy Oswalt and Prince Fielder aggressively, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com (via Twitter).
- The Mets asked the Cubs about Tom Gorzelanny, according to Heyman (Twitter link).
- The White Sox signed former major leaguer Jon Adkins to a minor league deal, according to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune.
- The Twins, Phillies and Giants are losing interest in Ty Wigginton, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (via Twitter).
- Jason Frasor tells Richard Griffin of the Toronto Star that he hears the latest from MLB Trade Rumors whether he wants to or not, since his friends tell him about the latest rumors.
- I talked trades with Rob Shaw and Michelle Steele of Bloomberg Sports. You can check out the video clip at USA Today.

Jon Adkins is one of the friendliest guys you will ever meet. Always tweeting.

I like Gorz more than Lilly he is having a good season he has a era slightly over three and I bet he costs a little more in prospects though.Maybe 2 Mid level+Cash conserderations for him.The only way I would consider a Wilmer flores is if they could get both Lilly and Gorz.
Dylan
No way should the Mets ever trade Flores.

Edmonds make sense for the Braves although he is a left handed bat. The Braves are desperate for decent CF production with McLouth sent to AAA and Melky a 4th outfielder manning it full time right now. Wren seems unwilling to this point to give up anyone that has value now or in the near future so Edmonds to me is the best out there.
Doesn’t seem to be available though.

I think a Ted Lilly/Zambrano combo to the mets for Oliver Perez with the Mets absorbing all of Big Z’s contract would work for both teams…
The Cubs would get salary relief for this season and the next 3…
The Mets get immediate help this year, while adding payroll for 2 more additional years ( with 50 mil coming off the books soon )..( oliver’s salary next year would be a wash )
A met rotation of santana/pelfrey/lilly/niese/zambrano with dickey and tak in the pen would make their team much stronger in both the rotation and pen….I think dickey as a long man in the pen…
the mets would have a long man named dickey for once !
brstreet9
Would you want Zambrano and his headaches in the rotation, and the Mets footing the bill for it? Personally, I would rather just keep R.A. Dickey in the rotation the way he is pitching. A good knuckleballer is fun to have in a starting rotation anyways.
RBomb2844
Agreed. Dickey had lost 3 in a row before the Cards but he still has an ERA in the mid 2’s, right? And he only lost them because of a lack of run support. Stick with Dickey.

I would rather them trade Tejada than Wigginton. Wiggy still has some power and can play every where. Miggy did bring back a solid, if raw, arm, Wiggy might bring back even more. As mich as I like Guthrie, he could bring back a lot more.
greengrove
Tejada is already gone, dude.
Lookouts400
I know. I said they got a young arm for him. My point was, I would rather them trade Miggy than Wigginton, if they’re gonna keep anyone.

The Angels don’t appear to have made Bobby Abreu available, according to ESPN.com’s Buster Olney
Really? Now Buster is reporting players who are not available? I also would like to report that the Yankees have not made Robinson Cano available. Wow, that was easy.
Kelly
would the angels be crazy to ask the Chi Sox for Daniel Hudson for Abreu?
BK
Do it!

I’d make Abreu available if the right deal came along. Angels farm system is not the deepest and Abreu is hardly the player he once was.
RBomb2844
Yeah, I’m sure the Rays could work out a deal for him. They lost out on Worth, DeJesus, and everyone else that has been taken off the market. Abreu could be a good fit in Tampa Bay, though I think the Angels would rather move Matsui or Rivera – good luck though.
VoteForPrado
Well, contrary reports said that he IS available, so he’s just clearing things up.
HerbertAnchovy
Taschner didn’t last long with the Dodgers. Another regular of the DFA Club.
The_Silver_Stacker
how on earth can the rangers afford cliff lee and then chase after oswalt and fielder when they are in bankruptcy?
LifeLongYankeeFan
They can’t they”re probably going all out to try and win it all this year because they know the Yankees are gonna pounce on Cliff Lee like a bunch of parana lol. I’m not just saying that because I’m a die hard Yankee fan either lmao.

The Giants are losing interest in everyone, this wont end well…
Redhawk
Aaron Cook to the Cardinals would be a great fit. Cook is a warm body that throws a great Batting Practice. …..and the Cardinals…..need ……um
Hey! just take him dang it!
Robert_birch
I think this is actually a good trade for the Rockies-Cardinals. Cook is a good 4th starter at this point of his career and the Cardinals need him to put some distance between them and the Reds every 5th day.
The Rockies are going to have to pick up at least half of Cook’s salary to make it happen.
Redhawk
I’m not sure that’s going to happen. The Rockies don’t have St. Louis type cash

Are the Giants going to do ANYTHING!!?? Sabean is killing me. All I am hearing is the Giants loosing interest in every player they are linked too. They obviously need a bat and a relief pitcher. I am starting to think Sabean is one of those GM’s nobody wants to deal with. Probably due to the fact that he doesn’t understand that you have to give up talent to get talent!! JEEEEZZZZZZZ! I guess I’m too impatient. Is it Saturday yet?? LOL!
