After the season the Elias Sports Bureau will take all players over the 2009-10 period, divide them into five groups for each league, and rank them based on various statistics. Then each player will be labeled a Type A, B, or none. Those designations and the possible accompanying arbitration offers determine draft pick compensation (click here for a refresher).
Eddie Bajek has reverse-engineered the Elias rankings, and he's providing that information exclusively at MLB Trade Rumors. Here's a look at how the players rank for the period beginning with the 2009 season running through July 11th, 2010. The Google spreadsheet below has separate tabs for each position group. The players have about three more months to change these rankings. You can also go directly to the Google spreadsheet here.

I imagine that bolded are free agents and bolded and italicized are free agents with player or team options?

If you scroll to the bottom of any of the rankins it says exactly that…
Free Agent is bolded… Free Agent with option is Italicized ad Bolded.

It’s bizarre that Morneau is a Type B.

I’ll set the over/under on redundant Morneau comments from Twins fans this time around right around 4.5… #BitterTigersFan

Hey, there’s no denying Cabrera is a monster. He deserves to be atop the rankings. I thought it was criminal that Justin beat him out for All Star voting.
I’d just think the second-best first baseman in the AL would make Type-A.

I don’t get how Luis Castillo is rated higher then Jose reyes.

it’s probable cause of him beening hurt in the last 2 of the last 3 years…

@nymets1215: Probably because Elias uses multiple counting stats (PA, HR, RBI) to rank them, and Reyes has been injured a lot since the beginning of ’09.
meh
Kazmir is a B? How much carryover is in these rankings?
