The latest on Adam Dunn, with more updates to come throughout the day…
- The Nats are believed to have requested either Gordon Beckham or both Daniel Hudson and Dayan Viciedo in exchange for Dunn, tweets Heyman. That price was too high for the Sox, who told Beckham he wouldn't be on the move this week.
- The price for Dunn is high, but not ridiculous, according to Heyman (via Twitter). The White Sox and Rays are still involved.
- The Giants have minimal interest in Dunn at his current price, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (Twitter link). Morosi notes that the Tigers are not pursuing Dunn.
- The White Sox and Tigers have plenty of interest in Dunn, according to Heyman (on Twitter).
- Three-way scenarios involving the Nationals, White Sox, Diamondbacks and Edwin Jackson are in play, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com (via Twitter). Rosenthal reported that such talks were underway earlier in the week.
- The Rays are the favorites to acquire Dunn, according to one executive who spoke to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. The Giants are the only other team Sherman hears in connection to Dunn (Twitter links).
- The Tigers are not pursuing Dunn, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (Twitter link).
- The White Sox are saying internally that they're out of the Dunn sweepstakes, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney (on Twitter).
- Earlier today, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported that the Yankees are now out on Dunn. Joel Sherman of the New York Post explains that the Yankees would give up top prospects for a piece they need, but not for a luxury like Dunn. The Yanks lead the majors in scoring, so Dunn's bat is not an absolute necessity for the Bronx Bombers.
If the Nationals really wanted Gordon Beckham, they could have sweetened the deal by adding Destin Hood in to the deal.
Beckham isn’t going anywhere. I’m wondering if KW is thinking of going after some pitching.
Zippo chance Rizzo would trade a 20 year old prospect. His MO is to unload old players for youth.
Does that leave the Giants as the frontrunners? Assuming Posey and Bumgarner are untouchable, who would the Giants give up?
Good question. Sabean has said over and over he won’t trade Sanchez either (even though I think it would be worth it for Fielder). Anyway, my guess is that Wheeler would have to be involved, and then either one or both of Neal or Belt. Possibly Ishikawa or something? Not sure.
I gotta believe that Wheeler alone is even too much to give up for 2 months of Dunn. Plus, I think he would have to be a PTBNL right now, because it’s been less than a year since he signed. But, I guess you have to give up something to get something.

I’d say Thomas Neal, Zach Wheeler, and Emmanuel Burriss for Adam Dunn would be good for both sides
I’d rather go for Luke Scott and Will Ohman from O’s. Cheaper and Luke is a decent bat.
but luke scott isn’t scary like adam dunn. giants need that potential long ball threat every time a guy stands in the box.
So if the sox are out on Dunn, whose next? Bautista, LaRoche, Hawpe? Personally out of that group I think Hawpe would be the most likely fit considering he just rakes LH pitching and the Rockies asking price hopefully wouldn’t be ridiculous. But I would rather get Bautista for his defense, power & ops but AA is probably gonna ask for a ton in return.
Apparently .257 against lefties means raking…
Not to mention a career .329 OPS vs L compared to .380 vs R
Oops your right. I was thinking vs. RHP.

Luke Scott could be thrown in the mix as well for the White Sox
There’s no way that the Sox are out on Dunn – my guess is that it’s just KW posturing to make Rizzo sweat a little bit. Now that’s not to say that a deal is going to go down, but there’s no way that the Sox are just going to give up on Dunn with a couple days left before the trade deadline.
yeah…the Sox are out on Dunn…right…….squat and watch.
People around baseball just haven’t learned about Kenny Williams yet, have they. You can NEVER predict what he’s going to do. It’s fun to talk about, but in reality, no one has a clue. That’s part of the reason I love the guy. Reports are out right now that the Sox front office is going nuts with all kinds of different possibilities, some of which are way bigger than Adam Dunn….
Then again, they could just wind up making the Geoff Blum-type move.
Agree-it’s called “posturing” and “positioning”-KW can make all the controlled leaks (i.e who better than Olney)he wants creating a smoke screen. Anyone knows that KW would never put something like that out there if it were true. The Lance Berkman type comment was probably just that-a feint Nothing out of Chicago media sources either, which leads me to believe that this is as well. Something big may be going down-it may not be Dunn, but something definitely will happen.
never put it past kenny to go after a past his prime star in berkman, though.
sigh.

KW is after Greinke.
Had the same thought today. KC is a perfect bottom of the division seller, it really does boil down to pitching, and the Sox and Royals have made a deal in the recent past so they have some history working together.
Would it surprise anyone if Kenny had us all looking at a big bat and he delivered a big arm?
i swear i was thinking the same thing. KW is getting someone that nobody has even mentioned yet…watch.
I’m wondering if KW is letting the pitching chips fall around the league so he can swoop in on someone after the other teams have made their moves. There’s going to be a log jam of teams trying to move players. More wanting to be moved than are sought after.

so the rays are still interested, who are they willing to give up, any of their good pitching prospects?
Im so happy. I think the sox need a starter more than dunn and could settle for the other adam in arizona
It’ll be Frisco. I can feel it.
Give the Rays Garret Jones for Beckham
I would absolutely take that deal as a rays fan.
Yea, Beckham hasn’t been all the great in developing
Friedman could probably get this deal done
uh yeah right. two years removed from the draft and he’s contributing for a contender.
what?
Wrong Beckham. Gordon isn’t the only one in professional baseball.
Tim Beckham, aka, the lesser Beckham.
Tim Beckham, aka, the lesser Beckham.
As another Rays fan I’d do that too. Man crush on Jones and Brignac is showing that he might just be the SS of the future here.
Jeremy Hellickson was pulled from his start today so the Rays may have something brewing. Maybe Wade Davis and another prospect or two for Dunn?
More bad news for the Red Sox.
who cares.
Me and other Red Sox fans.
who cares.
Sabean needs to get this deal done and make Dunn a Giant. Come on Sabean we need someone that can hit the ball out of the park!
I am not upset by this at all. I also doubt the Tigers were ever really interested in getting Dunn.
The interview the Giants Bruce Bochy gave about the trade deadline is hush hush. He said he can’t say. I think Adam Dunn is in the works.
Hellickson wasn’t pulled based on a trade. Just monitoring him
Who do I believe about the the tigers? Morosi or Heyman. I can’t imagine the tigers would still be interested in Dunn unless they had an extension in place for him to be the tigers future DH/RF
FWIW Morosi used to be a local writer here in Detroit.
Imagine Dunn in the Rays lineup behind Pena. If he hits like he usually does, the Rays win the division easily
Its come down to 2 teams (1 AL, 1 NL). Both can offer young pitching in return. I give a slight, slight edge to T.B. just because they can offer the best deal (although I think Dunn would prefer the Giants). Either way, the team that gets him is playing in October.
Are we in or are we out? Jesus.
what, of the AL central race? out.
Ha ha. I meant the Dunn sweepstakes. But it looks like we’re out. Thank god.
what, of the AL central race? out.
Come on Cashman get Dunn! If Dunn wants the best chance of winning a title he better think things through and Cashmoney better at least try to prevent the Rays from getting him!
doesn’t matter what dunn wants to do. his future is in rizzo’s hands because he doesn’t have a NTC or PNTC
//Heard this: The White Sox consider Lance Berkman as one of their Plan B options, now what they don’t expect to get Adam Dunn.

Honestly, and a lot of people would think this is crazy, but I like this a lot more for the Sox. I have a feeling that Berkman could be had for a much lower price, which suits them. I also think he plays into what they are looking for way more than Dunn. A little bit of power, gap hitter, and not too shabby defensively if you put him at 1b. It fits more into what Ozzie is all about, as well….interchangeable parts.

sox get someone else. dunn’s price goes down, and the giants move in. hopefully my dreams are a reality.
Rizzo doesn’t want to trade Dunn ! He is great for the clubhouse and with the bat ! Thats why when anyone calls on him the price is high
Truth is..no one really knows who is available….The Sox have been pullingout some heavy lumber lately. I have to wonder if another arm is in the works. Peavy is out for the season. 1-3 is solid, and Garcia has doen well at #4.
Who knows.
I change my previous answer from 2 to 3 (add in Chicago). These next 36 hours are gonna be crazy. I still give the Rays a slight edge, but Chicago is a very, very close 2nd.

The White Sox had a scout in Toronto watching Luke Scott
Scott v. Righties: .304/.381/.607 .988 OPS vs. right handers.
But OPS at Camden yards….1.136.
Luke Scott
vs. A.J. Burnett 7-23 / 2 HR 1.168 OPS
vs. Phil Hughes 7-15 / 1.292 OPS
He has seen the Yankees more than anyone on the radar and would help to neutralize the righties in a postseason series.

good god Rizzo is crazy that is too much to ask for Dunn considering he is a free agent at the end of the year
Oh yeah, it’s not like you’d be getting two first rounders if you don’t resign him or anything.
And if Dunn’s traded before tomorrow’s game, he hit a HR in his final Nats at bat. Double, HR for Dunn in helping seal a series win against the Braves. Given that it’s not looking like he’ll sign, I hope they move him, but we’ll see.
Souldrummer! My man! Get in on the Edwin discussion in the Wire Taps thread (near the bottom), if I remember correctly, you were discussing it in my fanpost as well?

The Giants said the aren’t going to trade starting pitcher or top prospects. They aren’t going to trade for a big bat. You have to give up something to get something. What if the Giants traded Posey and Bumgarner when they were prospects?
