Rangers Exploring Deal For Conor Jackson

By Mike Axisa | June 14, 2010 at 1:37pm CDT

The Rangers are exploring a deal for outfielder Conor Jackson according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, but "nothing is remotely close." Texas has been looking for a righthanded bat for their bench basically all year, and have been linked to Mike Lowell since the winter. They are also considering other options beyond Lowell and Jackson.

Of course, the Rangers must consider finances more than most clubs, and Jackson is still owed close to $1.9MM during the remainder of the season. He is under team control for 2011, which is certainly a nice benefit. Rosenthal mentions that Texas has prospects to spare, so perhaps they could convince the Diamondbacks to kick in some money by offering up a higher quality player.

The 28-year-old Jackson is hitting .238/.326/.331 in 172 plate appearances this season, spending time in left and at first. The Rangers already tried Ryan Garko as the righty bat off the bench, but he was waived after hitting .094/.171/.094 in 37 plate appearances.

The starting offer was a block of cheese, it might end up being enough.

Ah, from the Garrett Atkins school of “Maybe THIS year he’ll be useful again.”

The Rangers should deal for Jeff Keppinger instead, he’s cheaper and better.

Well if Keppinger is really better than Jackson, then why not just trade for both Keppinger and Oswalt?

That would be good for them, but they can’t make a big trade until the team sale is complete. If it’s done before the deadline then maybe they can trade for Oswalt.

I’d prefer Boston just let Kalish and Reddick get a few AB’s this year if they need another guy to fill in after McDonald and Nava. Both are already at AAA anyway and Kalish is supposed to be the next corner OF of the future, can’t hurt over pretty much another future AAAA guy in Jackson who would just get cut when Hermida and Ellsbury gets back anyway.

? Where did it say anything about Jackson to the Sox? That comment is so out of left field.

Actually.. LF is a position for jackson you know..

yes, I did not click the link, but with every useless piece of rubbish OF being linked to Boston, I figured he was also. My mistake.

This gut would just take up a 40 man roster spot with the Rangers. Jon Daniels please stay away from these types of under performing players. We have enough of them as it is (Justin Smoak & Chris Davis).

The AP is reporting that the D-backs shipped Conor Jackson to the A’s for minor league right hander Sam Demel…
