While Cliff Lee and Roy Oswalt will dominate the starting pitcher trade rumor circuit for the next month or so, most teams can't afford (both in terms of prospects and/or money) to add someone of that caliber to their staff. Instead, they'll look to smaller upgrades, similar to what the Tigers did with Jarrod Washburn last season.
Which second tier starting pitcher is the most desirable trade target?

Brett Myers.

Among those, I’d go with Myers, but there has to be someone better out there! I think, to be fair, you have to assume that the player will walk at the end of his contract. Edwin has a season left, while others would only be rentals. I’m glad to have Scherzer instead of Jackson. I don’t see a Doyle Alexander in the bunch.

Aaron Harang? He would be much better in bigger park. Most of the Runs he gives up are via Home Run. So pitching in GABP is not helping.

Jake Westbrook or Fausto Carmona? Isn’t the Mets taken of them possible if they can’t get Lee?
Dawn9476
That should be taken one of them.

The Mets hit Westbrook pretty well, just as they hit Millwood well. I would assume this takes both off their radar. And as for Carmona, they already have a pitcher under contract that has strike zone issues named Oliver Perez.
I want the Mets to get Haren, but thats just me.

You must not have watched this game their were 4 balls hit to the left and the right of Donald all should have been outs but were infield singles and the Crowe misplay in center that went for a double and a couple of Rbi’s, so yes they hit the ball but if you go back and rewatch the play of Westbrook’s defense you will see as most, Westbrook with any support from his team would have at the most given up 1 earned run.
The team playing behind Westbrook really sucks you have a minor leaguer at 2nd a 2nd baseman at SS and by far the worst 1 st baseman in the history of baseball at 1st in Branyan. This is no help for a sinkerball / groundball pitcher. And we won’t even begin to talk about Peralta’s lack of range at 3rd base.
Trust me with the Met’s infield behind a guy like Westbrook you would be talking 10 maybe more wins during the rest of the regular season.
Plus Westbrook is 10 times the pitcher Carmona will ever hope to be. But I do hope some sucker trades for Carmona.

Well if the story was true the other day best 2nd tier pitcher available is Shaun Marcum

Who the F voted for Edwin Jackson? One sloppy no-no doesn’t replace a career of bad pitching.
