I’m curious now, someone asked if Prado was the “second base second baseman in the NL” and the response was: CHASE UTLEY. I’m going to assume that’s a misread question, and not that you think there’s someone out there better than Utley and Prado in the NL. What’s the answer for the correct question?
Branon Phillips, but its close. BPhillips has a .353 wOBA versus Prados .352 so they’re basically identically offensively, if in different ways. Phillips is a much better defender though, both scouts and sabermetricians agree. I’m going to consult UZR since its more easily acceptable. Phillips has positive UZRs in 4 straight seasons and a gold glove (could have more if that Utley guy wasn’t so good). Prado currently sports a negative UZR and has in all but 1 of his major league seasons. He could definitely improve on that as this is his first full season at 2B. However, right now I have to give the edge to Phillips based on his superior defense and track record.
Prado is superior on offense. Phillips is superior of defense, which equals them out, but when you go to WAR, WPA, and value, Phillips wins with 2-1. So, Utley, Phillips, and Prado are the top 3, in that order.

I can’t believe someone asked why there were no Ryan Braun trade talks…
That’s just as ridiculous as expecting trade talks for Stephen Strasburg.
Kevin Chambers
No remember they are going to trade Strasburg or Oswalt straight up.

Chase Utley is better then PRado.
Tyler
Yes, yes he is. Making Utley the BEST second baseman. The question still is who is the second best second baseman.
Kevin Chambers
