I expected to see Vernon Wells name on this list. No team in their right mind would trade for that contract
cardsfan23
Doesnt Pujols get 10 and 5 this year?
martinfv2
I would think it would kick in after the season, at 10 years service.
ivdown
He’s only got like 9.15 years of service time right now I think, so I would imagine that you are right and he gains that at the end of the season.

Bizarre to see Lohse on that list. Does indeed appear his was contractual. About 2 more years with StL to reach 10/5.

— I thought Torii Hunter had a no trade clause – Cot’s lists it as no-trade protection
— Didn’t see anything about B Abreu having no trade protection
martinfv2
Not sure why I wrote Abreu. Cot’s is a little vague in saying a guy has no-trade protection…initially I am leaving those out in case they are partial.
martinfv2
I’ve confirmed that Torii’s is not full.
Ryan
Tim, what about Raul Ibanez?? Cot’s has the same vague “no-trade protection” listed for him as well.
Thanks

Im suprised CC isnt on the list… I thought he would have wanted No-Trade protection
iains
Vernon Wells also has a full untradable clause too.. the whole contract
J
He’s playing really good this year though.

Edit to post above cuz Edit isnt working right now***
I was right.. According to Cots you missed CC
# 7 years/$161M (2009-15)
* signed by NY Yankees as a free agent 12/11/08
* $9M signing bonus (paid in 3 installments: 12/31/08, 3/1/09, 7/31/09
* 09:$14M, 10-15:$23M annually
* salaries to be paid semimonthly over all 12 months of year, rather than semimonthly during season
* Sabathia may opt of of deal after 2011 season
* no-trade protection
* perks: suite on road trips
martinfv2
As I said above I left out guys where Cot’s said “no-trade protection” and didn’t say “full.” But Mike Axisa told me CC has a full so I did add him. In the meantime I should talk to Cot’s about that distinction.

Not sure if I understand no-trade clauses to it’s fullest extent, but if a player was to waive it to accept a trade, does it kick back in after being traded? If that’s the case, Roy Halladay still has his.
martinfv2
I think you’re right and it is retained.
TriplePlayed
The Braves don’t give out No Trade Clauses. I understand Hudson and Chipper being on there because of the 10-5 stuff but Wagner? Not too sure about that. Only been with the braves this year.
martinfv2
Wagner is another mistake on my part…sorry for being sloppy. I looked at some old contracts accidentally in a few cases.
martinfv2
Gallardo removed

I believe Mike Lowell has full no-trade protection as well. wiki.soxprospects.com/Trade+Limitations
martinfv2
But what is that website’s source?
martinfv2
Talked to Jeff at Cot’s…no-trade protection is a broad term – can mean full, can mean partial…so when it’s verified as full he puts full. So those “no-trade protection” ones…I should look at them individually and attempt to get further detail.
nickfit
This suggests Mike Lowell’s is only limited

martinfv2
Clarified on Gallardo, added Dempster.

What about Carlos Guillen? I he’s hit 10 -and- 5.

For everyone who has criticized Ed Wade for not going into sell mode, note that Lance Berkman, Carlos Lee, and Roy Oswalt are all on this list. Berkman and Lee have been open and clear that they will not waive their no trade clauses. Oswalt might, but only to certain teams, which (along with his $15M contract) makes him difficult to trade.
Ryan
Fear the Ed Wade no trade clause. He used to hand them out like business cards in Philadelphia.

You can get a player to waive the clause. Either kick in more money or make life miserable for the player. If the Astros would have went to those guys three years ago and said, “Look, we are going to go all youth. We can move you to a contender of your choice, and possibly compensate you OR you can stay here and watch as we slash payroll to a bare minimum and bring up all the kids from AAA.” I don’t care how much you like Houston, faced with those choices any reasonable player would at least be open to looking at other opportunities.
Of course, this doesn’t address the underlying problem – what the heck was he doing in handing those things out in the first place.
melonis_rex
Jake Peavy had a full NTC, and he was traded.

Doesn’t Jeff Samardzija have a full no-trade clause. I know he at least has a partial one
BravesRed
He has a full, that’s how the Cubs got him to play baseball and not football.

buffettatfenway
Not to play semantics here but does a 10/5 player have a no-trade “clause” or no-trade rights … I would think that if a 10/5 player accepts a trade he no longer has those rights where a player with a no trade clause continues to possess no trade with his new club

That is an important distinction…I changed the title to “rights.”

Too many Cubs on that list. As if I already didn’t know.

surprised AJ Burnett isnt on here.
