Links for Sunday night..
- Shelley Duncan is playing well for the Indians since being promoted from Triple-A, writes Dennis Manoloff of The Plain Dealer. The 30-year-old outfielder signed a minor league deal with the Tribe in January.
- The Dodgers have signed righthander Jon Huber to a minor league deal, according to the MLB Transactions page. Huber, who has been assigned to Double-A Chattanooga, last appeared in the majors in 2007 for the Mariners.
- In his latest mailbag, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com writes that the Marlins are more likely to deal for a relief pitcher than a starter.
- ESPN's Buster Olney (via Twitter) wonders aloud if the Giants might decide to promote Buster Posey after being swept over the weekend by the A's.

If they promote Posey, just put him at Catcher. Don’t put him at first or some other position. You want to put somewhere you plan to play them for a long time. Look at what happened to Gordon Beckham, ya sure he’ll turn it around but he could be doing so much better.
giantsfan4life
That would never happen though due to Bochy’s love affair with old “gamer” vets like Molina.

Then I feel sorry for the Giants.

What’s with the signings of former Braves today?
And one Buster is becoming obsessed with another Buster’s promotion.
giantsfan4life
That’s due to the fact that Buster is simply the best all around hitter probably in the entire Giants organization and with the G’s needing Offense everyone is asking why Posey is still tearing through AAA pitching and not helping the big club.

“simply the best all around hitter probably” this made me laugh a little. lol

Sandoval is the best all around hitter because he can hit for power and average. Posey will be a doubles hitter with avg and won’t develop power for a little while. And by power, I mean HR power. But regarding Posey…I was listening to KNBR’s post game show and Marty Lurie brought up an excellent point. Posey shouldn’t be called up when the lineup is in a terrible funk. Think about it, if you call up Posey when even our best hitter isn’t hitting, what kind of mindset do you put him in? That’s right, you put pressure on him to produce and get our offense going. While I think Posey is a good bat and has potential to be a great bat, he is not the JESUS bat. He won’t pull us out of drowning waters and thats asking too much of him. The Giants will shake out of this slump with some good play at home, because they are a home team. With that being said, Posey will eventually be called up here and I would rather not bring him up with expectations to carry a team, because when that happens the pressure usually gets the better of the rookie.

One more thing, I just wish the Giants would put Wellemeyer in long relief or release him cause he is just dead weight on our rotation. He can pitch a beautiful game on Tuesday against the Nationals, and I still wouldn’t have complete trust in him. I want the Giants to promote Hacker for now and let him pitch, who knows he might be a late bloomer with some win potential. And if he isn’t, then we can finally call up Bumgarner, who has been throwing 93 MPH with a new cut fastball to strike people out. MadBum has looked like his old self the last couple of outings and continues to get stronger. This leads me to believe that his whole offseason consisted of non-baseball activities, but hey, who can blame him? He’s 20 years old and was probably oblivious to what it really takes to succeed at this level. Not too mention the dude got married and he had to deal with a family death before spring training.
giantsfan4life
Agreed, Hacker should be pitching Tuesday but for some reason Wellemeyer keeps getting starts every 5th day even though it’s a loss 4 out of 5 times. I believe we’ll see Bumgarner sometime around the start of July to give him some extra success at AAA and while keeping him from gaining Super Two status.

Posey is not “tearing through AAA pitching”. His MLE is sub-800 OPS: .276/.353/.417/.770. That is not tearing through MLB pitching, that is good hitting for a catcher and slightly better than Molina, but not anything that will ignite the Giants offense.
Of course, should Posey be promoted and if he fails, the same fans clamoring for his promotion would then blame Sabean for rushing Posey when he wasn’t ready.

I find it amusing that the Marlins are now looking for a relief pitcher after trading away Matt Lindstrom and he converted 10/10 saves with a 1.40 ERA. Maybe the Astros should trade him back and demand Mike Stanton in return.
(That last part was a joke, you internet-goers.)

I find it more amusing that this guy has chosen to write about Shelly Duncan playing well for the Indians after 2 hits in 4 at bats. Poor Cleveland.

I went to his BR page and wondered if they just forgot to update him for a while. Talk about sample size jeez.

Just like people wondering aloud whether Washington will bring up Strasburg, and so forth.
Pundits are always wondering aloud whether a struggling team is going to bring up one of their top prospects who may fix whatever problem that pundit thinks ails them. And sometimes they get it right, but from the ones I see, most of the time it seems like they are pulling it from their nether regions.

Its about time they decide to bring up posey. You know who they really promote dave raghetii and fire bruce botchhead , brian sebean.

if the Giant were to promote anyone if they fired Bochy, it would be the bench coach Ron Wotus. I read in an interview somewhere that Rags would rather not be a manager but stick exclusively to being a pitching coach. One person to promote if Bochy ever got the hook, would be Steven Decker who has a fantastic coaching career in the Giants organization. He has won at every level and is a pretty vocal manager.
