The Braves signed outfielder Alex Romero to a minor league deal, based on the team's Double A roster. The Braves confirmed the signing.
Romero signed a minor league deal with the Astros in December, but was released in March. The 26-year-old hit .348/.416/.462 for the D'Backs' Triple a club last year, but struggled in 157 big league plate appearances. Two years ago, Baseball America called Romero "the ideal fourth outfielder."

No harm in getting a little depth in AAA right?

Double A actually, he’ll be their starting CF there.

Organization depth. Good guy though, remember him from the Tucson days.

Well, I think the Braves like Young for their 4th outfielder of the future. Him or Cleven.

I hope they aren’t letting him get some ABs there with intentions of trading away Matt Diaz. Matty-D has never gotten a fair shake at a starting job. All he’s ever done is play good defense, hit .300+ and come up with some clutch hits.

and solid last game of the year base-running.

Lay off. The entire team played like crap the last week of the season

Diaz did more for the Braves than any player on the roster last season. He is a hard working player and it’s sad that people only see a bad play when they think of him instead of the player that basically carried them the last couple weeks last year. I hope he earns the job this year, melky is tickin me off so far.

With all the outfield depth the Braves have in the minors that should be coming up with the next year, Melky, McLouth and Diaz should all be gone by the end of this year(i.e. Schafer in center mid this season and Cody Johnson or Adam Milligan in left mid 2011).
Not a bad pickup, I don’t see any point to this though. Perhaps, they see something in him that no one else does. Matt Young is the ideal fourth outfielder for the braves, great defense, amazing speed and a high walk rate.
