The Blue Jays claimed Canadian third baseman Shawn Bowman off waivers from the Mets, according to a team press release. He'll head to the Jays' High A affiliate.
Bowman, 25, hit .294/.346/.458 in 379 Double A plate appearances last year. He has above-average raw power and strong defense, according to Baseball America's '06 Handbook.

if he has above average raw power, strong defence, and hit .294 why Is this guy in Double A at 25?
MitchNYM
Because he was blocked by David Wright for 4 years now. He was a huge prospect a few years back. The Mets really botched this one.

why is he going to high A when he did very good in AA last year?
shockey12 2
Jordan Bastian of MLB.com tweeter earlier that they will have him start in AAA
UnknownPoster
Oh cause rightup above (at least when I saw it), it said he was going to high A
shockey12 2
Bastian tweeted AAA but according to the Jays site you are right it is high A. My bad
UnknownPoster
No problem. IMO AAA would make much more sense… Could be a mistake on the Jays site. To send him down a level makes no sense after his AA year
iains
Bowman already shows on the AAA roster
UnknownPoster
that makes more sense than him going back to high A

Toronto loves the waiver wire more than any MLB team around, except for maybe Pittsburgh. Big difference though, Toronto makes solid pickups. Like the Everts move, this was a bungle by the Mets. Best of luck to Bowman, maybe he’ll get a chance to experience some success in an organization that treats him like an actual prospect.
