Talks between Joe Mauer and the Twins are not stalled despite an absence of news on the topic, a source with knowledge of the discussions told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Opening Day, which is the likely deadline for Mauer, is still three weeks away.
In November, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports wrote that Mauer would shut down talks at the end of Spring Training. However, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune's La Velle E. Neal III, no deadline has been set.
Rosenthal writes that Mauer is still expected to sign an extension of at least seven years for $20MM per season.

..and Mauer said after the Passan article that he would be willing to talk during the season and that there is no deadline.
I’m going to continue to wait until something is official when he’s either signed, traded or leaves as a FA, or takes the Puckett route-becomes a FA and still signs with the Twins.
Unless he wants to be even more like Ripken and sign on his birthday, April 19th.

fans of 28 teams want this to go down.. get it done twins.

For real. Any baseball fan who truly respects this game would want to see Mauer stay in Minnesota.

Make it 29, (assuming the 2 teams you left out are the Yankees and Red Sox) because I want this to happen, and even if he hits FA I hope they Yankees use the time that everyone else does on Mauer to get a pitcher and OF, Romine/Montero = catcher of the future.

I wonder how many years he will be able to cacth before his knees start falling off?
Ferrariman
posada is still kicking it at like 88 years old and pudge still has average-above average defense and he is getting up their in age.
i think with him being just 28 and having the luxury of DH, he can catch till he is 35-37.

Is there a reason why the Buster Olney rumor about the Phillies, Ryan Howard, and Albert Pujols hasn’t been posted?
Dylan Zane
Probably because there’s no chance the deal will happen. Amaro shot it down pretty quick.
Lies,” he said. “That’s a lie. I don’t know who you’re talking to, but that’s a lie.”
It wouldn’t make much sense for either team to make the deal, the Cards wouldn’t have signed Holliday if they knew they wouldn’t be able to keep Pujols. And unless there’s an extension going around with it, I don’t see why the Phillies would do it for one year.
myname_989
*drools* Lmao
I highly doubt it would happen as well, but Amaro did deny that he was trying to trade for Roy Halladay up until the minute it was a done deal. Haha. Every GM wants to be remembered more than anything, and can you imagine the name Amaro would establish for himself as the guy that brought both Roy Halladay AND Albert Pujols to Philadelphia? Wow. Lol

Mauer is tall and tall guys generally can’t stay behind the plate for that many years because of the effects on their knees. I’d say once he hits his 30s he will be looking to move to another position.

I don’t want to hear anymore about this until it’s done.
