The Giants signed Guillermo Mota to a minor league deal, according to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News. Unlike Horacio Ramirez and Byung-Hyun Kim, who also agreed to deals with the Giants today, Mota receives an invitation to Spring Training.
The Dodgers didn't offer Mota arbitration after the righty posted a 3.44 ERA for them last year in 65.1 innings of relief. The 36-year-old's rate stats – 5.4 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 – are nothing special, but his average fastball is about 94 mph.
aha, they counter Amezaga with Mota…
Well, I guess that settles it … Giants won’t be acquiring Prince Fielder anytime soon.
haha…good point
Unless we trade Fielder for Mota (im dreaming wayy too much)…..i really think during the Trade Deadline he may be are big offensive bat (please come to us and Mota will apologize by buying u and Sandoval 1 yr amount of Dinners
So… is a “minor league deal” a set price or price range?
Man, Sabean is trying REALLY hard to get fired! Come on Bow-Tie!!!
Hey at least hes not your highest paid BP arm.. like he was for us.
Aren’t BK Kim and Ramirez non roster invitees for spring training? I didn’t think Howry was that great, and Mota has potential to put up similar numbers. Hopefully Sabean hits on one of these guys that would be nice.
wasn’t*
um what?
He’ll be a mop up guy like Howry and Miller’s role last year, but cheaper.
Mota had a bad first 6 weeks last season with the dodgers. There were rumors going around that the dodgers might release him. He made some adjustments with his delivery and had filthy stuff the rest of the season. It is a good signing Mota will add depth to the bullpen.
Well if it worked out for Miller and Medders, why shouldn´t for Mota…
Mota = Bum
