The Reds signed infielder Miguel Cairo to a minor league deal, reports John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer. Cairo, 36 in May, played briefly for the Phillies last year and hit .287/.325/.392 for their Triple A club. He's capable of playing all around the diamond.

I’m sure Bavasi rallied for Cairo… he was such a monster 1B for the Mariners during his tenure.

Bavasi was the reason that Jack Z has had such a busy off-season. Z corrected Bavasi’s mistake.

I know… I just still can’t believe that anyone would give him another job in the majors… silly Cinci

In all fairness it is a MINOR league deal. No risk. Clearly a depth move.

very true… just couldn’t pass up another much-deserved Bavasi shot.

Yeah well if you had to…
Defensively, Not too bad is Miguel but for a team like the Reds, Any veterans they bring to the club will help. They have a young team and possibly the best depth in Baseball (once again…when healthy). Miguel could spell Brandon Phillips, Joey Votto, and Scott Rolen from time to time.

I hear that! Bavasi destroyed the M’s before Zduriencik brought my team back from death bed.
BIGPELF
he can still play good or he will be a mentor?>

i guess this means no johnny damon for the Reds

I guess that means no Johnny Damon for the Reds

unless the team signs orlando cabrera, miguel cairo has an all-but-guaranteed roster spot as the backup infielder. unless he plays terribly in the spring, his veteran-ness will earn him that spot ahead of adam rosales and drew sutton. however, if orlando cabrera becomes their shortstop, paul janish will be the default utility infielder and cairo will not be necessary.
Chuck
Yeah, unless Sutton or Rosales has a ridiculous ST, Cairo has a spot, b/c they need experienced (or young w/ any talent at all) middle IF depth in the worst kind of way. Until this signing, Zach Cozart was an injury to Janish away from playing everyday.
