The Pirates designated pitcher Anthony Claggett for assignment to make room for Octavio Dotel, according to a team press release. Claggett, 25, posted a 3.07 ERA, 4.7 K/9, and 3.5 BB/9 in 82 Triple A innings last year. The Bucs had claimed him off waivers from the Yankees in September.
Can someone clarify? If he already had a minor league assignment, why can’t the Bucs take him off the 40 man, but leave him in their AAA system?
He is out of options, the pirates got him last yr bc he was out of options on the Yanks & they had to DFA him forcing him to go through waivers, etc.
No real surprises there.
He was not out of options last year. The Yankees just needed to make room on the 40 man roster and he was DFA figuring no one would claim him.
