The Mets are one of three teams interested in Frank Catalanotto, tweets Jon Heyman of SI.com. The Brewers and Marlins are "believed to be" Catalanotto's other suitors. The 35-year-old hit .278/.346/.382 in a part-time role for the Brewers last year, playing at second and in left and right.
Like Jim Edmonds, who the Brewers added yesterday, Catalanotto is a left-handed hitter with a significant platoon split. He struggles against lefties, but has a career .819 OPS against right-handers.

If the Mets sign him, It will be the worst week transactionally of Omar Minaya’s career.

How do you figure he signed 2 players this week for around 2MM, not really that big of a deal even if they turn out to be busts. All of these guys are backups and relief pitchers that just give more depth.
wright_is_my_boy
why? 1 major league deal worth 800 k.. another minor league deal.. and now a utility guy that wont cost more tha 1.5 …. its ok if ur reasoning is that u think its cool to bash the mets.. u and all the other fans/media … the mets will be back in 2010

I believe the week he traded Cliff Lee, Grady Sizemore, Brandon Phillips, and Lee Stevens for Bartolo Colon and Tim Drew may have been worse.

I hear he does a great John Madden impression.

Would like to believe that, if they sign him, it would then lead to a trade for pitching with some kind of package that includes Pagan. Would like to believe that but I don’t know what to believe anymore.

What a dream that would be..imagine they ship castillo/pagan for arroyo/phillips…dreams

I liked this guy a few years back. Though he’s never put up big numbers, I remember him having some good years batting .300

Well that would be a dream come true, would love to see it happen. I just don’t see the Reds trading Phillips without getting something big back. And, if I were them, I’d want to hold onto him as part of a core that could be built around. He is expensive for them, no question, but he’s also a good player and can’t see them giving him up. Plus they restructured Scott Rolen’s contract and helped themselves financially there. I agree with you that a deal is still there for either of Arroyo or Harang. At this point, I’d take either but I think Arroyo would actually be a better influence on the team.
TheFilibuster
Yeah Arroyo would be better, and is the better picture. There have been no rumors between the Mets/Reds for weeks now which really is unfortunate because I have been hoping that some trade could of been made…lets hope Omar can surprise us.
BoSoxSam
Lol, it’s just kind of funny watching these Mets rumors; from what I hear (not a Mets fan) the team has a bunch of holes/weaknesses, yet all I see are rumors for nearly every over-the-hump aging veteran available. Sure, they’re not spending much on them, but how do any of these players really improve the team that much? 😛
TheFilibuster
Whats really funny is how all these rumors connecting the Mets to various players always seem to come from the same sport people (Heyman, etc) One has to wonder if the Mets actually have any real interest in these players at all, or are these sport writers just saying things that would appear to make sense just to write reports? I think so

@BoSoxSam: After last three years, we’re all about ready for a rubber room.

I can’t see the Brewers re-signing him with the acquisition of Edmonds. They have a ton of OF options at this point.
He has awesome walk up music, though.
