The Rangers designated outfielder Greg Golson for assignment to make room for Khalil Greene, reports Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. Golson, 24, hit .258/.299/.344 in 500 Triple A plate appearances last year. He was acquired by the Rangers in November of '08 for John Mayberry Jr.

Former Phillies stiff. What a waste of a #1 pick by the Phils.

At least the Phillies flipped him for Mayberry to provide some value out of the pick.

I think Gregg Olson is the real victim here.

I could easily see the Phillies signing him to a minor league deal. He could contribute in Lehigh Valley, and I don’t think he’s done as a prospect. He needs some work before even considering a cup of coffee in the big leagues, but I think he still has upside as a 5th OF.

Wow he should get a shot somewhere. Kansas maybe?

I can see the Pirates picking him up. Obviously, with what they’ve been doing this offseason, if it were to happen, it shouldn’t be a suprise.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pirates picked him. With what they’ve been doing the past offseason, it shouldn’t come as a surprise.

I would definitely like to see him get signed by the Pirates, but I think they are in a logjam situation. Unless they make a trade or move a few more individuals off of the 40 man roster, I don’t see that happening. Also, I think he might have more potential than Brandon Jones.
