The Dodgers avoided arbitration with Chad Billingsley, agreeing on a contract for 2010, according to MLB.com's Ken Gurnick. Billingley, who made $475K last year and was arbitration-eligible for the first time, will earn $3.85MM this year, tweets Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times.

That’s not a bad price for Billingsley. A nice raise for Chad, but not a terrible hit for the Dodgers. I am surprised that they didn’t try to lock him up for more than this year though, but that seems to be their trend so far with their gaggle of arbitration players.

It was his first year eligible, and considering the way he finished in 2009, I think the Dodgers want to see a bit more consistency before they lock him up long term.

very true. especially how after how his second half went this last year.
