I'm not a huge fan of policing the comments, but I know it comes with the territory. I try to browse as many comments as I can. When I see something that violates any of the below items, I typically delete every comment the person ever made and ban them from commenting. This is so I don't have to waste additional time bothering with the same person. Our moderators operate in a similar fashion.
Comments of this nature are not allowed:
- Attacks/insults towards other commenters, the post author, journalists, teams, or players
- Inappropriate language
- Juvenile comments or extensive use of text message-type spelling
- Spam-type links or self-promotion (try Baseball Blogs Weigh In if you have a website)
- Comments about how you're sick of this topic or it's not newsworthy
- Writing comments in all or mostly caps
- Anything else I deem bad for business
That pretty much covers it. Don't do that stuff, and you're good. Just be respectful to everyone and act like an adult. If you see comments that fit the above criteria, please contact us.

Isn’t this potentially vague in that an ‘insult’ towards a player or team could just be an honest assessment or opinion like discussing a player whose skills have diminished or a manager who clearly is not very good at their job, etc.?

I think the difference between saying a guy can’t hit anymore and saying that since the guy can’t hit anymore he’s a dbag is fairly obvious. The point being I think that if someones comments who weren’t meant to be insulting are so bad that they actually are insulting then they need to learn how to post and/or clean it up some.

I can understand the non use of Inappropriate Anything else I deem bad for business language, however, this is America and we have that freedom to speak our mind.Basically what you stated in your last comment “Anything else I deem bad for business”, says it all about you. One big generalization , and very vague. What that tells me that almost every comment made on this board can be refused by way of your commenting policy. I wasted enough time, you just lost a subscriber on Face Book. Have fun.

I don’t think you completely understand freedom of speech. This website is Tim’s “property”. You do not have the right to come in here and say whatever you want.

Free speach works both ways Allan. You can say what you like, that’s your opinion. Tim can block you if he wants, that’s his opinion. And since this is Tim’s site….. well, you do the math on that one and get back to us.

In my house, I make the rules and you abide by them or get tossed. Try your “free speech” there and see what happens. I am a guest on this blogsite and will have no problem abiding by the requirements of the owner. Those who feel “First Amendment Constrained” are free to start their own blog.

You have an avatar of Stan Smith and you act just like him in real life. Methinks you don’t get the joke behind American Dad!.

I agree with the need for editing and filtering, but just be careful when removing comments not to ‘skew’ the debate one way or the other… I have seen it done around here, though perhaps accidentally.

What will BLEACHER CREATURE do with the new caps addition…this will be amusing.
