The Yankees have designated Ramiro Pena for assignment according to the transactions page at MLB.com. The move cleared room on the roster for the recently-acquired Casey McGehee.
Pena, 27, had one single in four plate appearances with New York this year and is a career .233/.266/.288 hitter in 338 big league plate appearances. The infielder hit .249/.302/.316 in Triple-A this year and has seen time at second, short, third, and right field during his career.

But what about that Pena for King Felix straight up trade?
Slopeboy
@EastCoastBias:disqus
C’mon, be serious! Seattle would expect some kind of substantial pitcher as well.
Cody Epply should seal the deal

These Player X + Player Y for King Felix trade proposals are getting out of hand…both of you need to be more realistic:
Pena, Eppley, Stewart AND Qualls. Yankees messed up trading Qualls when they could have had Hernandez!
Slopeboy
@InvalidUserID:disqus
LOL, I actually thought about Qualls, but you can only trade what you have.
Jj Byrnes
Peter Gammons would think that Pena 2.0 aka Jose Iglesias, is worth that straight up!
DerekJeterDan
I can see him getting claimed. The Braves have had interested as did the Phillies.
pr1nyc1
He did the little things right and played anywhere. Good luck Ramiro.

Colin Curtis, Juan Miranda and Ramiro peña, are from the same Draft year?
oogadebob
Curtis drafted in 06, Pena and Miranda signed as amateur FA’s Pena in 05 and Miranda in 06
tmengd
He is 27 and the Astros have lots of injuries at SS right now. They might take a claim on him
Ray R
Some team in need of decent glove will who won’t embarrass himself should grab him.
aemoreira81
I agree that he might be claimed…but Ramiro Pena, in limited MLB experience, was even worse than Eduardo Nunez at the plate (although he was a better fielder than Nunez’ fielding, which was an absolute horror show).
oogadebob
They are opposites, Ramiro is all glove, Nunez is all bat.
aemoreira81
I wonder now if he should have been the player included in the Pineda trade instead of Jesus Montero…because I have never seen a glove as lead-based.
Robb Logan
Montero was the reason thew M’s dealt Pineda. Pena instead of him and Jack Z would have hung up on Cashman and the trade would have been dead.
oogadebob
Yes because having someone who is pure glove is just as valuable as someone who is all bat…. When you have an awesome bat and no glove people forget how bad you are in the field… Take Matt Kemp for example… he is the worst CF in baseball, and its not particularly close… and Yet people still talk about his “5 tools” because his bat is so good. People who are all glove are generally defensive replacements for said players. And no, I’m not comparing Nunez to Matt Kemp, Just breaking it down…
Septhinox
Except Nunez never had 4 errors in one game. lol
Ron Gurney
thats how the Yankees reward their up and coming players… use tham and then toss them aside.
Patrick Oliver
Good luck Ramiro!
