The Phillies announced that they have avoided arbitration with Kyle Kendrick by agreeing to a one-year deal worth $3.585MM. SFX represents the second-time arbitration eligible right-hander.
As MLBTR's Arbitration Tracker shows, the Phillies now have three remaining arbitration eligible players: Cole Hamels, Hunter Pence and Wilson Valdez.
Kendrick, 27, posted a 3.22 ERA with 4.6 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 in 114 2/3 innings last year. He owns a 43-30 career record with a 4.41 ERA in 598 1/3 innings of work since 2007. The Phillies control his rights through 2014.

That is pretty much money for a spot starter/reliever.

Was Kendrick the guy they pranked by saying they traded him to Japan? That was too funny
Jeff
Yup – in the words of Brett Myers – “Kobayashi! Hot dog eater!”

And if that wasn’t enough, he got his World Series ring stolen (eventually returned)…

Swartz estimated $3.2MM… not bad

yea you’re the man

Probably Kendrick’s last go around with arbitration, I expect him to get non-tendered next year.

That’s what I said last year after last year, yet here we are again.
That flushing sound you just heard was Amaro tossing $100’s down the drain with this decision.

Incorrect. Kendrick is fine as a the long man/spot starter at this salary.

I think RAJ is hopeful that Kendrick will get his head out of his @ss and develop into 3-4 starter material. They could’ve signed a 5th starter for cheaper, but I think Kendrick does have some upside, and he’s had no injury problems.

Unless he develops some amazing new out pitch hes the definition of replacement level. 3 million that could be spent elsewhere, like on another left handed reliever.

I’ve grown to like Kendrick for what he is. As a 6th starter/long man hes adequate. Hes like the janitor of the pitching staff and occasionally he can throw a jem starting. Not a bad option for depth.
