Wilson Ramos has been rescued from his abductors, reports Rafael Rojas Cremonesi. Venezuela's Information Minister tweeted that Ramos was found by authorities (passed on by Cremonesi), and the Ramos family has already been contacted with the good news.
Ramos was kidnapped near his home in Venezuela by four armed gunmen on Wednesday. The kidnappers didn't contact the Ramos family but did contact police, and it was confirmed yesterday that Ramos was alive.
Thank God that this young man can continue to live his life. Here is to hoping this situation never happens again, for any person. Such a sick sad world.
What a relief that is. Welcome back Wilson.
This is the best story of the offseason. None of the other stories matter. This was a man’s life, which is worth more than all your Pujols/Fielder rumors. Thank God they found him. I was praying for him.
WOOOOOO! Great news!
Great news.
I’m glad. Too bad they probably won’t catch them though.
YAH!!!!!! i bet everyone is happy!
YES!!!!!
fantastic news
Glad to hear
Glad to hear
Awesome news!!! Best way to start the weekend!!!
Incredible. Hopefully this isn’t something that sets him back as far as baseball goes.
Baseball aside though, a great, great story.
Except for the part where he was kidnapped.
That was not long before he was found
Yay!… now back to…. never mind.
This actually cheered me up a bit
Welcome back Wilson Ramos!!!!!!
Thank goodness. It’s a shame the Penn State fiasco had hidden the seriousness of this event (not saying the Penn State situation isn’t cuz it certainly is) because I feel a lot of people did not see how tragic something like this was because it was not talked about a lot in the midst of the media.
That doesn’t matter now, at least Ramos is back safely. Bless him.
Good to hear. It’s unfortunate that the Marlins event is happening right now.
Not a Nats fan, but definitely glad to read this news. Now I hope the creeps who committed this heinous act are brought to justice swiftly.
Apparently, three people were taken into custody, and one woman who was kidnapped a few weeks ago was also freed. This via Amanda Comak of the Washington Times.
Thanks for the info.
Very good news for the Ramos family and those around baseball. It really sucks it needed happen this way and really hurt the possibility of other baseball stars and those from Venezuela going back to their home country to play the game they love. Wonder if he may move his family out of the country…
Scary times we live in, doesn’t matter who you are…
Very nice, thank God.
Dynamite news!!!!
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw!!!!!
yayyy
AWESOME! Thank G-d.
Thank God.
Im soooo glad they didnt kill him! That woulda ruined my day…
I think that would of ruined a lot of people’s days.
Im soooo glad they didnt kill him! That woulda ruined my day…
Comeback player of the year!
Comeback player of the year!
AWESOME!!!!!! Now get back here! Hopefully he will be able to move his family here as well!
If they catch the kidnappers, they will have been “caught stealing”.
I’ll give you creds, that was pretty clever.
Excellent news, effing glad he came out ok…
Great! Go to hell kidnappers!
Is Venezuelan police custody good enough? They got three of them, and they’re not exactly known for being…pleasant.
Even with his safe return, it’s situations like this that painfully remind us that we are all mortal.
Welcome back, Wilson!
Great news
If you happen to be there on opening day in 2012, make sure his standing ovation is insane!
I’ll be there and screaming my heart out. Well, the home opener; Nats open in Wrigley in 2012.
spectacular!
Amazing news!!! Thank God he’s ok!!!! OMG, I was so worried.
Hallelujah! Great news for his family and the Nationals baseball family and the MLB family.
Welcome home Wilson!!!!!!!! Wilson Ramos is one of my favorite players and Im thrilled but they should use these same tactics whenever anyone gets kidnapped and put an end to this.
Thank goodness, hopefully he is completely unhurt
They said just dehydrated.
Now that he’s back, I can now make this joke:
Matt Capps has mysteriously gone missing.
Still in bad taste
I really want to laugh and that really is clever, BUT too soon
It’s more than a decade later and I’ll still think about this joke and laugh.
Great news.
I’m happy for both him and his family.
Thank God.
Honestly this could have been a huge tragedy, I’m extremely happy this took a positive turn..
Perhaps mandatory body guards moving forward?
Joking aside, I’ve been curious whether or not MLB decides to hire security for their players outside the U.S. After Ramos it kinda seems like a necessary inevitable.
It’s more likely to be a team-by-team thing, with some hiring security and some merely recommending to their players that THEY hire security, and providing some trusted names.
Oh, and according to Nats prospect Ryan Tatsuko, the American-born players in the VWL ARE provided with security.
Without a doubt I am happy he has been returned safe. However, this is not new in Venezuela unfortunately. It is a shame that people have to resort to this sort of thing when there is a dictator in charge of a country. Not only has this hurt Mr. Ramos but it will hurt the Venezuela tourist industry and we will probably see less ex-pat Venezuelans come back home if they feel that they will be kidnapped when they get back.
Again, I am happy Wilson is home safe.
I hear the first thing he said when he got rescued was “They gave how much to Papelbon? For a closer?!?!?”
Relax. It’s OK to joke about it now…
Freedom is something we too often take for granted. Above all, life is more important than baseball, having him rescued is the best news anyone could read on here. Now, who on earth is going to want to play winter ball in Venezuela? I bet that waiting line is short. This could be a huge knife in South American baseball in general.
Finally! Glad he was found! This has not been an easy week to be a sports fan with PSU and Ramos, glad to hear Ramos was resolved!
great news! <3 wilson ramos
Awesome news. I’m glad he turned out okay.
