THURSDAY: Lopez cleared waivers and accepted an assignment at Triple-A, according to Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times.
TUESDAY: The Rays designated infielder Felipe Lopez for assignment to make room on the active roster for Evan Longoria, tweets the Tampa Tribune.
The Rays had signed Lopez to a minor league deal in February, and his contract was purchased on April 3rd when Longoria hit the DL. Lopez hit .222/.263/.347 in 76 plate appearances and further frustrated the Rays by not running out multiple grounders. The 30-year-old has been used all over the infield in his 11 big league seasons.

Jays!
Encarnacion's Parrot
Replace Nix with him? I like the idea.
HerbertAnchovy
Replace a sub-par 3B with an unmotivated, bad-attitude Lopez? Yuck. I’d rather see Johnny Mac that either of them.
Encarnacion's Parrot
Look on the bright side, you give an unmotivated, negative Rivera an unmotivated and negative Lopez. Two negatives make a positive.
Besides, Reagins may not be stupid enough to trade AA Bourjos for Rivera alone, so the Jays should sweeten the deal with Lopez 😉
HerbertAnchovy
I like your logic!
Lunchbox45
07-09 the guy got on base at a pretty nice rate.
Encarnacion's Parrot
Forget about 2007, and you’re correct. He was ok in 2005 too.
Remember92
The Pirates need to pick him up and ship out Cedeno. But I’m sure he would drop his belongings when leaving the clubhouse. Then run a red light looking for his 3rd base coaches number to say goodbye. Anything is better than Ronnie. And he would be good insurance to split time with Wood.
bigpat
No thanks, I would rather see Cedeno and Wood share time than Lopez. He had a good season a few years ago but has just been getting by on hype ever since. Can’t field the position very well either. Wood needs more chances to play.
Jordan Rump
You guys don’t want Lopez. Hes a punk and a cancer to the team.
Gumby65
He’s like Albertbellejeffkentcarleverettemiltonbradley, but without the talent.
22gigantes
Maybe the Giants should sign him. Can’t be any worse than Tejada. Plus, the last time the G-men signed a Tampa Bay castoff, it worked wonders!
Jeff Weissbuch
Doubt under that logic the Brewers should draft all Cecil Fielder’s children
CheapSeatChronicles
Giants? Brewers (round two)? Twins?
Plenty-o-teams in need of infield help…or depth…or warm bodies.
$1742854
Uh, the Twins and Bill Smith need to be all over this. Sign him, release Alexi Casilla, and play him at 2B or SS, depending on when Nishi comes back.
mgsports
Giants yes.
kimofromkauai
The Dodgers need help in the infield and have an affinity for troubled vets.
PhnxCrew
he was great when he was in milwaukee. He and rickie weeks are still good friends and morgan has been very non cancerous. Makes too much sense for doug melvin, who loves almonte and kotsay for no good reason.
jctrock
I see the Giants signing him. Castoffs and misfits. Cody Ross and Pat Burrrell. Now Felipe Lopez.
RAYS7
I think it’s funny how everybody is saying that the Giants should sign him when he has CLEARED waivers and Is now in Triple-A !!!!!! You need to be sending us something for Lopez !!!!
User 4245925809
Got to wonder if Lopez rubbed of not running out grounders from Upton or was it the other way around at Tampa bay?
Slopeboy
Shows the degree of talent between the two. Upton’s done that several times in the past two years and is still on the team. Lopez does it twice in a month and is gone!
Andy Forrester
Lopez not hustling is no news in the baseball world, why teams continue to give him a chance is beyond me.
User 4245925809
Oh yeah and walking out on teams, not wanting to play for then even thought they were headed to the playoffs even in San Diego’s case even (possibly) last year.
Like was posted above by a member thought, Maddon tolerates this sort of thing for a long time when a player has so called “talent” look no further than Upton, Delmon Young and the king of off the field problems, failing to run out balls as well as general lackadaisical play on the field when he was with the Rays at times.
Talent seemed to come before discipline, but I guess when you run a 40m franchise they gotta do what they gotta do.
Adam
Yes Giants, please sign him! Reduce the number of suitors for those valuable trade canidates on the Mets.
nathanalext
Why would anyone want this bum?
jasonk
Barely serviceable these days as a utility guy off the bench. I doubt the line for his services will be a long one.
Kendall James Barnes
No… the Brewers already went down that road. No Thanks! We are fine without him.
