About an hour after agreeing to sign Oliver Perez, the Nationals added another left-hander from another division rival, claiming reliever Lee Hyde from the Braves (Twitter link). To create roster space for their new addition, the Nationals placed Stephen Strasburg on the 60-day DL.
The Braves selected Hyde in the fourth round of the 2006 draft and he underwent Tommy John surgery the following year. The 26-year-old Georgia native pitched 60 2/3 total innings at Double-A and Triple-A last year, posting a 3.41 ERA with 7.7 K/9 and 3.6 BB/9.
Baseball America did not rank Hyde among the top 30 Braves prospects before the 2010 or 2011 season.
First Oliver Perez, now this guy. Nats are gonna have a great team for Expos Throwback night.
That made no sense what so ever.
Have fun with him Nats. Doubtful many Braves fans will miss him.
I’ll miss him, if nothing more than because of my Georgia Tech loyalties.
I wonder what roster moves Rizzo is planning to accommodate these new, uninspiring moves. DFA’ing Nyjer Morgan? Returning rule 5 Ramirez to the Mets? Returning Broderick to the Twins? (for the record, I like this Broderick guy and think he should at least open the season on the team)
I think Broderick is from the Cards… Either way, I think he has earned a spot on the 25 man with the spring he has had so far
That he is. My mistake and thanks for the correction.
Lee Hyde. Signed AFTER Oliver Perez (he will conceal this one minor detail from the grandkids)
Will miss Lee Hyde, if only b/c of his PTC/FYTVL/GT roots
nothing great but, seriously whats wrong with this guy? Why did the braves think he would make it thru waivers? his line from last year doesn’t look half bad
A 1.484 WHIP is kind of bad, he was better in his previous seasons.
And yeah, doesn’t make a ton of sense. They didn’t have any real need to clear space on the 40-man roster. They could’ve simply removed Wagner or place Kris Medlen on the 60-day DL. But it’s not a big deal, those two likely wouldn’t have made it to the bigs anyway given the Braves pitching surplus.
Every time I come to this website the Nationals are picking someone up.. where the hell are they putting these people?
They’ve created a league called AAAA. They sign low-cost, low-reward players and have them compete solely against Bryce Harper.
Ha ha.. that makes sense
Perez was signed to a minor league deal and Hyde has already been sent to Syracuse.
