The Yankees signed Chad Tracy, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. Tracy will play in the minors and provide the Yankees with some of the infield depth they have been seeking. Tracy asked for and received his release after the Cubs designated him for assignment in late June.
When the Cubs signed Tracy to a minor league deal over the winter, they hoped he could replicate some of the success he enjoyed early in his career. From 2005-06, Tracy posted an .848 OPS and averaged 24 homers and 38 doubles as a corner infielder and outfielder with the D’Backs.
Tracy batted just .250/.327/.295 for the Cubs in 49 plate appearances this year. The 30-year-old provides the Yankees with some depth in case Alex Rodriguez’s hip forces him to miss time.

So today won’t be a total loss for them if the Cliff Lee deal falls through.

How is the Lee trade a loss for the Yanks?
AisoRed
It isn’t, read what he said. He said IF it falls through…

This is a good move by Brian Cashman and Yankees. Low Risk Medium Reward. I can see Tracy being the 25th guy on their playoff roster. In late innings the Yankees have two bats on their bench. Tracy potentially from the left side and Marcus Thames from the right.
Time to think about what number Chad Tracy wear and if Cliff Lee will be a teammate of his in New York with the Yankees.
So whats next for the Yankees? A middle reliever? Maybe a second coming of Octavio Dotel?

As a cubs fan I can honestly say that we never gave him a chance. 49 AB’s? come one, really? I think Tracy still has some quality play left in him

Oh, and I forgot to mention that our starting 3rd baseman aramis ramirez batted roughly .150 for the first quarter of the year (still just batting 180’sh) yet Tracy and his .250/.327/.295 line couldnt get any playing time. Nice Lou, real nice!

To use an old BP phrase, the fork sticking out of Tracy is glowing.

clearly this guy is the centerpiece in the Cliff Lee Trade.

I don’t know if I’d be comfortable giving him up for Lee. =P

Whats gonna happen with the rotation if we add Lee? Who’s the odd man out ?

Lets see…in 2005-06, he posted an .848 OPS and averaged 24 homers and 38 doubles…hasnt been as productive since then…2005-06…what the heck was going on back then…oh, hell I just cant think why a middling player might have had a brief period of offensive success 4 or 5 years ago but not so much since then…
rovert22044
Very pointless pick up. He isn’t that great… Triple-A first basemen at best?
