The Rangers have announced the signing of righty Dillon Gee to a minor-league deal. He can earn $2MM if he’s in the majors, with a $1MM incentive package, per SB Nation’s Chris Cotillo (via Twitter).
Gee is still recovering from thoracic outlet surgery — as is fellow recent signee Tyson Ross. Last year, Gee joined the Royals on a minor-league pact and ended up making 33 major-league appearances, 14 of them as a starter. But even before the surgery, he had struggled. Gee worked to a 4.68 ERA with 6.4 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 over his 125 frames with Kansas City.
Just what Texas can expect from the 30-year-old, given his health concerns and recent performance dip, remains to be seen, but he ought to battle for a roster spot in camp. Assuming Ross isn’t quite ready for the start of the season, Gee could compete with pitchers such as A.J. Griffin, Chi Chi Gonzalez, and Nick Martinez for opportunities.
So is this where Brady Dragmire gets DFA’d?
Absolutely no reason to not take a chance on Gee. Depth is always good, especially when it comes with such minimal commitment.
Another pitcher making a comeback after being abused as a young pitcher in the Mets organization. Success at a young age is a kiss of death in flushing, where they put pitchers in harms way with over use. Hope he has success here!
Are the Rangers going to sign as many pitchers coming off injuries that they can in hoping some pan out?

What’s wrong with adding depth? I say add as many players as you can, hopefully someone will step up big for them this year
Rangers should trade for Phil Hughes, another Right handed starter who had TOS last year and create the “TOS Team ” defeating the syndrome and racking up Tons Of Strikeouts!!!
Bananas are a great source of potassium too.
Some guys are just fools. Why would any team not want to take a chance on past successes? Especially for a few million dollars and no guarantee to make the roster. It’s a win, win!
As others stated. It’s also depth. We took a flyer on a guy from Japan for peanuts and he gave us plenty of innings and wins.
