The Dodgers have claimed infielder Cole Figueroa off waivers from the Pirates, Los Angeles announced. He has been optioned to Triple-A.
Figueroa, who’ll turn 29 on Thursday, has appeared at second, third, and short at the major league level. He hasn’t hit much in limited action at the major league level, but has produced at a .288/.356/.376 clip in nearly 2,000 turns at the plate at Triple-A.

Are the Dodgers going to make a big trade for Sunny Gray or Julio theran so they get these guys just to trade them off?? Hopefully something big happens

Could they be putting a package together that includes Puig and Hernandez and prospects?

Actually getting Figueroa gives them organizational depth and his body allows another prospect to be traded and he can fill out the AAA roster. They pick up Cole to allow the trade of another player.

I wouldn’t hold my breath. So far no indication that this FO is doing anything but what they have always done, which is to collect prospects.

Cole Figueroa is most definitely NOT a prospect. 29(in two days) year old minor league singles hitters who can barely hit their belt size in the majors don’t see much time on prospect lists.

He’s a warm body sort of prospect. Definitely not to get excited about or to think about as a part of package building.

Your kidding right? If Figueroa had any value he would have been dealt not designated.

Exactly TJECK. It amazes me how unknowledgeable some fans are.

Figueroa has value. to the Dodgers if they are looking to package prospects. They need warm bodies to replace said prospects in the minors. If they are offering 2-3 guys off of the AAA roster to pick up a big piece for the big league roster, they need some guys like Figueroa who can play multiple positions and has a decent AAA bat. Fills a spot until they are ready to promote a AA guy. This very well could be move setting up a bigger move.

seems like the pirates get a good fielding no hit prospect, keep him in the minors, bring him up in spots, and let em go. good luck in LA, cole!

I still wonder if all these acquisitions are a precursor to making a run at Fernandez
