The Phillies have announced that they’ve designated righty Phillippe Aumont for assignment. The move clears space for the team to select the contract of righty Seth Rosin, who will presumably join their bullpen.
Aumont was the 11th overall pick in the 2007 draft and was a top prospect in the Mariners organization before heading to the Phillies in Seattle’s 2009 trade for Cliff Lee. He never had great control, however, and problems with walks have continued to plague him since the deal. He pitched 65 innings for Triple-A Lehigh Valley this year, with a 2.35 ERA and 8.0 K/9 but with 5.7 BB/9. His issues with walks have been even worse in the big leagues — he’s allowed 7.0 BB/9 in parts of four seasons, including seven walks in four innings this year. He’s still just 26, and he’s tall (at 6-foot-7) and a hard thrower, so he’ll likely continue to receive chances somewhere, either in the big leagues or the minors.

He may receive chances again, but it surely won’t be in Philadelphia, and also does this mean Aaron Nola will get called up? We have no one else. Our rotation now has O’Sullivan, Adam Morgan and Kevin Corriea with it looking even worse when Harang and/or Hamels is dealt.

There’s also Billingsley
So the rotation will likely be O’Sullivan, Morgan, Correia, Billingsley and probably a player who they acquire in a trade. I’d hope that Correia and/or Billingsley are traded in August if they play well enough. That’s when I expect to see Nola.
double
David Buchanan is throwing again and should be back on the mound for the IronPigs within a week. If he makes 2 or 3 strong starts he’s likely to get the call after Billingsley. The Phillies are unlikely to promote Nola before they’re ready to regardless of whether there is a need for a starter.

I would love for the Pirate’s to get this guy.

I’ve watched a couple of Aumont’s games this year and saw a few last year also on MiLB.. Classic big guy, can’t repeat his mechanics issues. Right handed version of Andrew Miller, which Boston got from the marlin’s after the Fish destroyed his delivery.
Some team should 1st of all get together with him, make sure he is devoted to time and effort involved in throwing out that fall he has in his mechanics and then rework his mechanics, just like Miller did and then HOPE it translates into anything close. It won’t be fast, but with an upper 90’s FB and that sweet CB have seen him throw? He *could* turn into a really, really good late inning weapon eventually for someone.

When is Billingsley coming back?

May as well pick up Cahill…. can’t be worse than what we have.
