The Indians have designated outfielder Jerry Sands for assignment, the club announced. Righty Ryan Webb had his contract purchased as Cleveland looks for solutions to its pitching difficulties.
Sands, 27, has taken 25 trips to the plate this year and produced eight base hits and two walks, good for a short-sample .400 on-base percentage. He has not received much opportunity at the big league level since a solid-enough run at age 23 with the Dodgers (.253/.338/.389 in 227 plate appearances). But in parts of five seasons at the Triple-A level, Sands has slashed a useful .264/.346/.483.

I wonder if he might be a fit back with the Pirates as a bat off the bench and send Lambo down?
connfyoozed .
Sands got into a fight with a fan during a AAA game while with the Pirates organization, and as I remember the Bucs front office was none too pleased with him. As for replacing Lambo, Sands is a righty and Lambo is the only lefty off of the bench. Also, despite a good start this year, I frankly don’t think Sands is any more useful than Lambo in the long run. If you look up “AAAA hitter” in the dictionary, Sands’s picture should be there somewhere.

Typical FO move from this woe-begotten team. The team can’t hit it’s way out of a paper bag with a serrated knife and they send a hot hitter back to AAA to bolster their bullterd, I mean bullpen.

I guess the Indians thought 1 right handed hitter off the bench was too much.

Jerry Sands is one of those guys who looks deserving of a major league roster spot but is always banished to aaa while the like of Michael Martinez and Casper Wells have major league roster spots

Jerry can still hit if given the AB. I remember watching him in Vero Beach as a rook and he looked like a future masher. He’s a good kid and I hope to see him get picked up by a team soon.
