The Dodgers have designated infielder Justin Sellers for assignment, according to a team release. The move clears space on their roster for Erisbel Arruebarrena.
Sellers, 28, has played in parts of three seasons with the Dodgers, hitting .199/.278/.301 in 266 career plate appearances. He served as the Dodgers' starting shortstop early in the 2013 season as the team waited for Hanley Ramirez to return from injury. Sellers then spent much of the year at Triple-A Albuquerque, where he hit .270/.326/.429 in 366 plate appearances.
Wow, he will be a hot commodity on the open market
There will be many buyers for Sellers.
Keep an eye on the Redsox, they could use the depth. Might not be room on the 40 man roster though.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
One all glove no hit shortstop for another potentially all glove no hit shortstop!
Sellers is a really good defensive middle infielder, but his bat is non-existent. If he’s lucky he can probably carve out an MLB career as a glove-only guy a la John McDonald.
Just like the Cuban the Dodgers signed for $25M. Same performance, 50 times more expensive.
True but if you could afford it who would you rather have ?Potential or someone you already have seen in the bigs ?
Which totally misses the point. Sellers is out of options. They were going to lose him anyway. Arreubarrena is the new Justin Sellers, more or less.
I see an AL east team picking him up, usually what happens to LA players 😛
Boston should claim him off waivers. currently, Jonathan Herrera, Brock Holt, Pedroia, and Bogaerts are the only middle infielders on Boston’s 40 man roster. i understand they already have 40 guys on the 40 man roster with Capuano signing but I can still see the RedSox claiming him for depth and either trying to sneak him to AAA through DFA or find a way to keep him on the 40 man roster.
