The Giants have designated catcher Guillermo Quiroz for assignment and recalled Hector Sanchez from Triple-A Fresno, the team announced on Twitter.
Quiroz, 31, appeared in 43 games for the Giants this season and totaled 95 plate appearances, hitting .186/.237/.302. The Venezuela native was excellent at limiting the running game, however, as he caught 8 of 19 potential base stealers (42 percent). He is a career .201/.258/.280 hiter in parts of nine seasons with the Blue Jays, Mariners, Rangers, Orioles, Red Sox and Giants.
The 23-year-old Sanchez is hitting .271/.364/.424 with three homers in 32 games at Fresno this season and collected 44 plate appearances in a brief stint with the Major League team earlier this season.
