The Padres have designated left-handed pitcher Alex Hinshaw for assignment, the club announced via press release.
Hinshaw, 30 in October, posted a 4.50 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 28 innings of relief work for the Friars this season. The lefty logged a strong strikeout rate of 11.6 K/9 but struggled with his control (6.4 BB/9). Prior to pitching for San Diego this season, he last appeared in the big leagues with the Giants in 2009.
In a corresponding 40-man roster move, the Padres selected left-hander Tom Layne from Double-A San Antonio.
Should have been Olendorph, do they really not have anybody better then Ross or are they just waiting for Stauffer? I was really hoping not to see him start again unless it;s at Petco. The guy get’s a tad bit sweaty and turns into the BP pitcher.
Hinshaw has always had a live arm.
Hinshaw was AWFUL as a Giant and AWFUL as a Padre.
B-REF has his 2008 season with SFG as a 3.40 ERA in 39.2 IP. Lots of Ks, lots of BB, homer prone. Eh.. career 4.52 ERA. Kind of an ‘is what it is’ situation rather than him being awful.
Anyone being DFA’d by the Padres can’t be a good career move.
