The Samsung Lions of the Korean Baseball Organization have signed Mitch Talbot for $300K, according to Korean reports relayed by Dan of MyKBO.net. The Indians, Talbot's former team, outrighted him off of the roster after the regular season, which made him a free agent.
The 28-year-old posted a 6.64 ERA with 5.1 K/9 and 4.0 BB/9 in 63 2/3 innings for the Indians in 2011, though he spent time on the disabled list with a lower back strain in July. He pitched 159 1/3 innings of 4.41 ERA ball in 2010 after the Indians acquired him from Tampa Bay for Kelly Shoppach in December of 2009.
Wow. Talbot hard up for cash? Korea for 300k? That’s harsh.
How many former Indians are over there now? 3? lol Germano, Garko & now Talbot I believe.
You’re right and they all play(ed) for the Samsung Lions. Wonder if there’s some kind of connection between the two franchises.
son I am disappoint
300K isn’t a bad deal to play outside of MLB on a one year deal….Especially if you like the Korean ladies.
Trust me. He’s getting paid much more than that. Korean baseball league has an upper limit on how much foreign players can get paid, but all teams pay the foreign players way more cash than is allowed by the league rule under the table. Most of the Korean fans are speculating that he’s really being paid around $1.5 mil or maybe even more.
Correct, all the foreign players get paid more than the KBO imposed salary cap (300-350K). Talbot’s deal is worth 1.1 million dollars from what I’ve been told.
