  • The Indians announced that they released right-hander Robinson Tejeda. Tejeda, 30, appeared in one Triple-A game for Cleveland after signing a minor league deal with the team this offseason. The 6'2" Tejada owns a 4.42 ERA with 7.6 K/9 and 5.0 BB/9 in seven MLB seasons.

Indians Sign Robinson Tejeda https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/01/indians-sign-robinson-tejeda.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/01/indians-sign-robinson-tejeda.html#comments Tue, 03 Jan 2012 11:05:34 +0000 http://localhost/mlbtraderumors/2012/01/indians-sign-robinson-tejeda.html The Indians signed right-handed reliever Robinson Tejeda to a minor league deal with a spring training invite, reports MLB.com's Jordan Bastian.  The 29-year-old entered the 2011 season as the Royals' setup man, but quickly lost the job partly due to a shoulder injury.  He was removed from the team's 40-man roster in June and elected free agency in October.

When healthy Tejeda spent most of the 2011 season at Triple-A, posting a 3.80 ERA, 8.6 K/9, 3.0 BB/9, and 1.60 HR/9 in 45 relief innings.  Tejeda did some solid work for the Royals at times in 2009-10, with a 9.6 K/9 and an average fastball around 94 miles per hour.  His heater was down to 90.2 in 2011, probably in relation to his injury.  The Indians' press release says he finished the season healthy at Omaha.

The Indians' other non-roster invitees so far include Luke Carlin, Michel Hernandez, Matt Pagnozzi, Andy LaRoche, Jose Lopez, and Felix Pie.

Robinson Tejeda Elects Free Agency https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/10/robinson-tejeda-elects-free-agency.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/10/robinson-tejeda-elects-free-agency.html#comments Fri, 07 Oct 2011 17:57:53 +0000 http://localhost/mlbtraderumors/2011/10/robinson-tejeda-elects-free-agency.html Robinson Tejeda has elected to become a free agent, reports Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star (Twitter link).  The right-hander was designated for assignment by the Royals in May and spent the rest of the season pitching for Triple-A Omaha.

In seven Major League seasons with the Phillies, Rangers and Royals, Tejeda has a career ERA of 4.42 in 186 games (53 of them starts).  Tejeda, 29, has averaged 7.6 K/9 in his career but has also had control problems, walking five batters per nine innings.  Given his decent lifetime numbers and solid minor league campaign for Omaha this year, Tejeda is a likely candidate for a minor league deal from a club in search of bullpen help.

Tejeda earned $1.55MM in 2011 after signing an arbitration-avoiding one-year contract with the Royals in the offseason.  The righty still has one year of arbitration eligibility remaining.

Royals Acquire Paulino From Rockies, DFA Tejeda https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/05/royals-acquire-paulino-from-rockies.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/05/royals-acquire-paulino-from-rockies.html#respond Thu, 26 May 2011 21:53:51 +0000 http://localhost/mlbtraderumors/2011/05/royals-acquire-paulino-from-rockies.html The Rockies have traded right-hander Felipe Paulino to the Royals for cash considerations, according to the Rockies' official Twitter page.  In a corresponding move, Kansas City designated right-handed pitcher Robinson Tejeda for assignment.

In 14.2 innings this season, Paulino has a 7.36 ERA with 8.6 K/9, 4.3 BB/9, and 14.1 H/9.  The fireballer owns a 5.93 ERA with 8.1 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9 in 65 career games – 34 of them starts.

Meanwhile, Tejeda hasn't seen a great deal of action in 2011, allowing five runs in 7.1 innings of work.  For his big league career, the 29-year-old has a 4.42 ERA with 7.6 K/9 and 5.0 BB/9.  While he's worked mostly out of the bullpen, he did make six starts for the Royals in 2009.  His $1.55MM salary for '11 is likely to dissuade teams from picking him up.

Colorado designated Paulino for assignment late Saturday night after being initially being unable to find a taker for him.  Days earlier, the Rox shipped Franklin Morales to the Red Sox for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Baseball Blogs Weigh In: Ichiro, Garza, Greinke, Bell https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/10/baseball-blogs-weigh-in-ichiro-garza-greinke-bell.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/10/baseball-blogs-weigh-in-ichiro-garza-greinke-bell.html#comments Fri, 22 Oct 2010 12:38:01 +0000 http://localhost/mlbtraderumors/2010/10/baseball-blogs-weigh-in-ichiro-garza-greinke-bell.html On this date two years ago, the Mariners named former Brewers vice president Jack Zduriencik as their new general manager. His defense-heavy approach resulted in a 24 win increase in his first season at the helm, though team scoring dropped by 31 runs. The Mariners won just 61 games and scored a mere 513 runs in 2010, the fewest by any team in the DH era. Unsurprisingly, there's already talk that Jack Z. is on the hot seat.

These links don't have to worry about being on the hot seat, they've made this week's edition of BBWI…

The hearings are scheduled for the first week of February.

We'll keep track of the players who avoid arbitration today by agreeing to deals here. Make sure you check back in for updates, and be sure to click the "Continue Reading" link to see today's full list of settlements.  Yesterday's list can be found here.

  • Kevin Baxter of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Angels avoided arbitration with Mike Napoli and Reggie Willits by signing the duo to one-year deals.  Napoli will earn $3.6MM in 2010 with a $100K bonus if he makes 120 starts.  Willits' contract is worth $625K.
  • Zach Duke's one-year contract with Pittsburgh is worth $4.3MM with no performance bonuses, tweets Dejan Kovacevic of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
  • The Padres and reliever Mike Adams have agreed to a contract, reports MLB.com's Corey Brock (via Twitter).  Brock's follow-up tweet says Adams' deal is worth $1MM, virtually splitting the difference between San Diego's $875K offer and Adams' $1.2MM demands.
  • Joe Christensen of the Minneapolis Star Tribune tweets that the Twins have agreements in place with all eight of their arbitration eligible players.  In a follow-up tweet, Christensen reports that Francisco Liriano agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6MM and Jesse Crain agreed to a one-year contract worth $2MM.

Royals Claim Robinson Tejeda https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/06/royals-claim-ro.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/06/royals-claim-ro.html#respond Tue, 24 Jun 2008 15:10:24 +0000 http://localhost/mlbtraderumors/2008/06/royals-claim-ro.html The Royals snagged 26 year-old pitcher Robinson Tejeda today off waivers.

The story on Tejeda: poor control, mid-90s heat.  Carlos Silva’s build, according to Baseball America.  Not a bad project for KC to take on.  Speaking of Silva…Royals fans must be happy they didn’t sign him last winter!

Rangers Expected To Waive Tejeda https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/06/rangers-expecte.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/06/rangers-expecte.html#respond Sat, 14 Jun 2008 11:17:01 +0000 http://localhost/mlbtraderumors/2008/06/rangers-expecte.html The Texas Rangers are expected to place Robinson Tejeda on waivers today, reports Evan Grant in the Dallas Morning News.

It would be Tejeda’s second trip through waiver wires this year. He cleared waivers at the end of spring training, and if he does so again, he can refuse an assignment to Triple-A Oklahoma and file for free agency.

The move is contingent on the Rangers not having to place Joaquin Benoit on the DL.

Tejada is 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA in four appearances this year.

Robinson Tejeda Clears Waivers https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/04/robinson-tejeda.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/04/robinson-tejeda.html#respond Wed, 09 Apr 2008 18:30:00 +0000 http://localhost/mlbtraderumors/2008/04/robinson-tejeda.html WEDNESDAY at 6:29pm: Surprisingly, Tejeda passed through waivers unclaimed.  He’s headed to Oklahoma.

TUESDAY at 9:07am: We discussed 26 year-old starter Robinson Tejeda here.  Imagine Carlos Silva with poor control and mid-90s heat (hmm, doesn’t sound too much like Silva actually).  Anyway, the Rangers designated Tejeda for assignment last week and have until Wednesday to trade him.  Jon Daniels doesn’t expect a deal, meaning Tejeda may simply be plucked off waivers.  He’s a project, so he might make more sense for a rebuilding team.  Jayson Stark saw no indications that the Mets were after Tejeda; David Lennon did.

The above-linked article from Anthony Andro also notes that outfielder Nelson Cruz passed through waivers unclaimed and is headed to Triple A.  The 27 year-old seems to have earned the Quad-A tag.
