Kyle Parker – MLB Trade Rumors https://www.mlbtraderumors.com Tue, 03 May 2016 04:18:37 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.5.5 Minor MLB Transactions: 5/2/16 https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/05/reds-sign-kyle-parker.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/05/reds-sign-kyle-parker.html#respond Mon, 02 May 2016 19:21:28 +0000 https://mlb.traderumors.com/?p=64825 Here are the day’s minor moves from around the league…

  • The Reds have signed former Rockies first-rounder Kyle Parker to a minor league deal, reports Baseball America’s Matt Eddy. Parker, 26, logged 112 plate appearances with the Rox last season but batted just .179/.223/.311 with three homers. The first baseman/outfielder does have  solid .285/.332/.442 line in parts of two minor league seasons, and he’ll give the Reds some additional depth at what is currently a somewhat uncertain position.
  • Fleet-footed minor league veteran Antoan Richardson has signed a minors pact with the Dodgers, also according to Eddy. The 32-year-old Bahamian-born outfielder has seen brief stints with the Braves and Yankees in the Majors. As Eddy notes, Richardson is the active minor league leader in on-base percentage (.394) and stolen base success rate (85 percent). Richardson is a lifetime .275/.394/.344 hitter in the minors with 15 homers and 328 steals (in 386 attempts).
  • Eddy also reports that catcher Luke Carlin has signed a minor league deal with the Indians, but Paul Hoynes of the Plain Dealer clarifies that it’s a coaching gig (Twitter link). Carlin spent the 2010-14 seasons in the Cleveland organization and saw a bit of time in the Majors in 2010 and 2012. Carlin has 156 Major League plate appearances and has batted .179/.263/.286 in that time. He’s a career .239/.357/.350 hitter at the minor league level, where he’s prevented 31 percent of stolen base attempts and drawn consistently solid pitch-framing marks from Baseball Prospectus.
  • The Braves will select the contract of infielder/outfielder Matt Tuiasosopo from Triple-A Gwinnett, reports David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (via Twitter). Tuiasosopo, 29, is a well-traveled veteran that last saw the Majors in 2013 with Detroit. He’s a lifetime .207/.290/.356 hitter in 401 Major League plate appearances that has posted a considerably better .246/.352/.413 line in nearly 3,000 minor league plate appearances.

Minor MLB Transactions: 4/2/16 https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/04/minor-mlb-transactions-4216.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/04/minor-mlb-transactions-4216.html#comments Sat, 02 Apr 2016 23:36:02 +0000 https://mlb.traderumors.com/?p=63950 Here are today’s minor moves from around the league:

  • The Angels announced that outfielder Todd Cunningham has cleared waivers and been outrighted off the roster (hat tip to Pedro Moura of the L.A. Times).  The Halos claimed Cunningham off waivers from the Braves in October, and the switch-hitting outfielder couldn’t simply be sent to the minors since he is out of options.  Cunningham hit .221/.280/.267 over 93 PA with Atlanta in 2015.
  • The Tigers released catcher Rafael Lopez, MLive.com’s Chris Iott reports (Twitter link).  Lopez has a .278/.366/.390 slash line over 1552 minor league PA, and his big league experience consists of seven games with the 2014 Cubs.
  • The Tigers have released outfielder John Mayberry Jr., Chris Iott of MLive.com tweets. They had signed Mayberry to a minor-league deal in January. Mayberry collected 119 plate appearances for the 2015 Mets, batting .164/.227/.318 while playing left and right field. He was little more impressive this season in Spring Training, posting a .119/.213/.238 line in 47 plate appearances.
  • The Rockies have released 2010 first-round pick Kyle Parker, Thomas Harding of MLB.com notes. The 26-year-old Parker played briefly with the Rockies in 2014 and 2015, compiling a total .182/.217/.295 line while playing outfield and first base. The Rockies had outrighted him over the winter, then brought him to camp as a non-roster player.

Rockies Outright Kyle Parker https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/rockies-to-designate-kyle-parker-for-assignment.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/rockies-to-designate-kyle-parker-for-assignment.html#comments Fri, 29 Jan 2016 23:51:34 +0000 https://mlb.traderumors.com/?p=61787 JANUARY 29: Parker has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A, Harding tweets.

JANUARY 20: The Rockies will designate former first-round draft pick Kyle Parker for assignment, according to reports from MLB.com’s Thomas Harding and Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post. Harding suggested last night a roster move involving Parker would likely be forthcoming, while Saunders confirmed today that he will indeed be designated.

Parker, a 26-year-old outfielder, was taken 26th overall out of Clemson in the 2010 draft. While he reached the majors briefly in each of the last two years, he never earned much of a look at the big league level.

Spending most of his time over 2014-15 at the Triple-A level, Parker put up a combined .285/.332/.442 line with 24 home runs across 930 total plate appearances. It’s worth bearing in mind, though, that he’s carried that production level in two of the upper minors’ most hospitable offensive environments (Colorado Springs and Albuquerque).

Draft Notes: Whitson, Indians, Harper https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/08/draft-notes-whitson-indians-harper.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/08/draft-notes-whitson-indians-harper.html#comments Tue, 17 Aug 2010 15:32:56 +0000 http://localhost/mlbtraderumors/2010/08/draft-notes-whitson-indians-harper.html

The smoke has cleared and all but three of the first 50 picks signed deals. Barret Loux (Diamondbacks) and Dylan Covey (Brewers) did not sign, but both pitchers had medical issues that influenced the dialogue they had with the clubs that selected them. Here are the details on the third player who did not sign, plus Baseball America's winners and losers:

  • John Manuel of BA lists the Nationals, Pirates, Anthony Ranaudo and Bud Selig as winners. The losers? The Brewers, Padres and the process itself.
  • Padres GM Jed Hoyer told XX Sports Radio in San Diego that the Padres had a verbal agreement with Karsten Whitson for $1.953MM on draft day. The club boosted its offer as high as $2.1MM, but Whitson and his representatives were holding out for more, so the sides didn't reach a deal. You can listen in on Hoyer's comments here.
  • ESPN.com's Keith Law finds it "hard to see [Whitson] beating the Padres' offer … in the 2013 draft."
  • In the same piece, Law explains that he believes Bryce Harper and the Nationals both did well with last night's deal.
  • The Indians spent $9.3MM on the draft, Indians scouting director Brad Grant told MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince (Twitter link).
  • The Rockies are allowing first-rounder Kyle Parker to play college football, but their $1.4MM bonus is protected if he gets injured, according to Tracy Ringolsby of FOX Sports (on Twitter).

Rockies Sign Kyle Parker https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/08/rockies-sign-kyle-parker.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/08/rockies-sign-kyle-parker.html#comments Mon, 16 Aug 2010 23:11:51 +0000 http://localhost/mlbtraderumors/2010/08/rockies-sign-kyle-parker.html The Rockies signed first-rounder Kyle Parker to a $1.4MM bonus, according to Jim Callis of Baseball America (on Twitter). Parker, who quarterbacks Clemson's football team, will be allowed to play football, according to Tracy Ringolsby of FOX Sports (Twitter link). However, he signed for less money than he would have obtained for agreeing to focus on baseball.

Rockies Discussing Deal With First Rounder Parker https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/07/rockies-to-sign-first-round-pick-parker.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/07/rockies-to-sign-first-round-pick-parker.html#comments Wed, 21 Jul 2010 08:12:00 +0000 http://localhost/mlbtraderumors/2010/07/rockies-to-sign-first-round-pick-parker.html 8:12am: Parker will announce he'll return to Clemson to be their quarterback as a sophomore, tweets Tracy Ringolsby of Inside The Rockies, but the Rockies can still sign him by August 16th.  Jim Callis of Baseball America says Parker had given the Rockies a July 20th deadline to sign him to a baseball-only contract.

WEDNESDAY, 7:19am: Renck tweets that he's heard Parker will make an announcement today.

TUESDAY, 9:30pm: The Rockies don't have a deal with Parker yet, according to Renck (via Twitter). The negotiations are taking time, partly because the sides had a lot to discuss. The Rockies are willing to "be creative" and accomodate Parker's desire to play football (Twitter link), but they would offer a smaller bonus if they allow him to play football.

10:44am: Rockies first-round pick Kyle Parker is expected to agree in principle on a deal today, tweets Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post.  Renck believes the contract will be closer to $2MM than $3MM.  Parker would join Todd Helton and Seth Smith as Rockies who played quarterback in college.

Parker was drafted at #26, where the slot recommendation might be below $1.5MM.  Parker has to be paid extra to be lured away from three years of football eligibility and the starting quarterback gig at Clemson.  He projects to land in an outfield corner if he chooses baseball.
