Gabe Gross, Jeff Larish Declare Free Agency https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/10/gabe-gross-jeff-larish-declare-free-agency.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/10/gabe-gross-jeff-larish-declare-free-agency.html#comments Sat, 30 Oct 2010 14:46:43 +0000 http://localhost/mlbtraderumors/2010/10/gabe-gross-jeff-larish-declare-free-agency.html Outfielder Gabe Gross and infielder Jeff Larish declared free agency after being outrighted off the Athletics' 40-man roster according to a team press release. Righthanders Jon Meloan and Justin Souza were also outrighted, but remain in the organization.

Gross, 31, hit just .239/.290/.311 in 243 plate appearances this year after signing a one-year, $750K deal last offseason. Despite the down year, Gross said he would return to the A's in 2011 "with bells on." Larish, 28, was claimed off waivers from the Tigers in August and hit .175/.277/.333 in 65 plate appearances with Oakland.

Neither Meloan nor Souza appeared in the big leagues this year. The former didn't pitch at all due to Tommy John surgery, the latter managed a 4.33 ERA with 8.3 K/9 and 4.8 BB/9 in 49 relief innings, mostly at the Double-A level level.

Stark’s Latest: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2007/07/starks-latest-3-2.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2007/07/starks-latest-3-2.html#respond Thu, 26 Jul 2007 18:23:02 +0000 http://localhost/mlbtraderumors/2007/07/starks-latest-3-2.html Jayson Stark has a new column over at ESPN.com.  Some highlights:

  • Octavio Dotel is almost a lock to be traded, and Chin-Lung Hu remains a possibility.  Stark adds that Dodgers GM Ned Colletti scouted reliever John Malone, which I think means Jonathan Meloan.  The 23 year-old Meloan throws in the low 90s with a hard slider; he commands his fastball well but carries some health concerns.
  • Regarding Jon Garland, we’ve already heard that the Mariners, Braves, and Yankees are interested.  Stark adds the Dodgers, Mets, and Phillies to that list.  However, he thinks Kenny Williams really just wants to trade Jose Contreras.
  • The Astros, surprisingly, have yet to open shop on their relievers.
  • Michael Bourn is the Phillies’ top trading chip.  Some possible targets: Kameron Loe, Scott Olsen, Ervin Santana, Noah Lowry, and Dontrelle Willis.
