Chris Anderson – MLB Trade Rumors https://www.mlbtraderumors.com Tue, 04 Apr 2017 22:23:32 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.5.5 Minor MLB Transactions: 4/4/17 https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/04/mets-sign-josh-rodriguez-minors.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/04/mets-sign-josh-rodriguez-minors.html#comments Tue, 04 Apr 2017 22:23:32 +0000 https://mlb.traderumors.com/?p=89374 Here are the day’s minor moves from around baseball…

  • The Mets have signed infielder Josh Rodriguez to a minor league contract, tweets Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. The 32-year-old Rodriguez, who briefly appeared in the Majors with the 2011 Pirates, will be returning for his third tour of duty with the Mets, having also spent the 2012-13 seasons and the 2015 season in their system. Rodriguez spent the 2016 campaign with the Athletics’ Triple-A affiliate, hitting .263/.381/.420 with nine homers in 342 plate appearances. The versatile Rodriguez has more than 4,000 career innings at shortstop, more than 2300 at second base and nearly 2000 at third base. He’s also had more brief stints in the outfield and at first base. He’ll head to Triple-A Las Vegas this season.
  • The Athletics have released first baseman Rangel Ravelo, reports Baseball America’s Matt Eddy (via Twitter). The 24-year-old Ravelo was one of four players the A’s acquired in the trade that sent Jeff Samardzija to the ChiSox, but he showed very little at the plate in 2016 despite spending the year in the hitter-friendly Triple-A Pacific Coast League. In 416 trips to the plate, Ravelo batted .262/.334/.395 with eight homers and 23 doubles. Ravelo lost his 40-man spot over the winter when Oakland signed Matt Joyce to a two-year contract.
  • Eddy also tweets that the Dodgers have released 2013 first-rounder Chris Anderson. The right-hander had a strong run in the Class-A Midwest League after being selected 18th overall back in ’13, but he struggled in each of the next two seasons and was shifted to the bullpen last year. In 67 1/3 innings between the Dodgers’ Class-A Advanced and Double-A affiliates, Anderson logged a disappointing 4.81 ERA with a troubling 51-to-46 K/BB ratio. His control worsened in the Arizona Fall League, where he was rocked for 22 earned runs on 28 hits and 12 walks with 11 strikeouts in 16 2/3 frames.
  • Another former top pick, White Sox outfielder Keenyn Walker (No. 47 overall in 2011), was also released recently, according to Eddy (Twitter link). Now 26 years of age, Walker never climbed beyond the Double-A level in parts of six seasons in the White Sox organization. Last year, he slashed .240/.330/.340 in 374 plate appearances with Double-A Birmingham, and he’s a career .206/.303/.283 hitter at that level.

West Notes: Street, Crisp, Athletics, Dodgers https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/05/west-notes-street-crisp-athletics-dodgers.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/05/west-notes-street-crisp-athletics-dodgers.html#comments Fri, 22 May 2015 23:35:39 +0000 http://mlb.traderumors.com/?p=54104 Angels closer Huston Street spoke with Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca about his decision to ink a mid-season extension. Though he ultimately handed off the job of negotiating that deal to agent Alan Hendricks, much of the groundwork was laid by Street himself. He says the process was enjoyable, but noted that he learned from mistakes in how things were relayed to the media this spring. Street spoke at length about the compromises struck to reach the deal, explaining the “interesting crossroad to be fascinated by the money but also to not be driven by it at all.”

  • Athletics outfielder Coco Crisp is still struggling with the same neck issues that bothered him last year, but Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports (links to Twitter) that surgery is off the table. Normally, that’s a good thing, but in this case the issue is that a surgical solution would very likely end Crisp’s playing career. Ultimately, Crisp may need another DL stint but is expected to be able to play with the injury.
  • The Athletics are not interested in dealing catcher Stephen Vogt and are not moving now on pitcher Scott Kazmir, Peter Gammons of GammonsDaily.com reports“I’m not trading Vogt,” said GM Billy Beane. “Period.” As for the veteran lefty Kazmir, Gammons writes that Beane and co. had intended to make him a qualifying offer but could ultimately consider a deal — though they’ve not yet had any action in that area.
  • From the same report, Gammons says that the Dodgers are generating plenty of interest in their younger players from clubs that have pitching to deal. The PhilliesReds, and Athletics, among other teams, are “scouring” the Los Angeles farm, per Gammons. The veteran journalist also adds that some other executives think that L.A. could potentially make a run at Cole Hamels by dangling interesting utilityman Enrique Hernandez, pitchers Zach Lee and Chris Anderson, and catcher Julian Leon to Philadelphia. While Gammons does not make clear whether his sources suggest that package would be enough, it certainly seems at face value that Philly would demand a headliner to top things off.

Dodgers Sign First-Rounder Chris Anderson https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/06/dodgers-sign-first-rounder-chris-anderson.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/06/dodgers-sign-first-rounder-chris-anderson.html#respond Wed, 12 Jun 2013 12:54:32 +0000 http://localhost/mlbtraderumors/2013/06/dodgers-sign-first-rounder-chris-anderson.html The Dodgers have signed first-rounder Chris Anderson for a signing bonus of $2,109,900, according to Jim Callis of Baseball America (on Twitter). The Jacksonville University right-hander is advised by ACES. Anderson's bonus matches the assigned pick value (per Baseball America) for the No. 18 selection exactly.  Anderson-2

Anderson, who turns 21 late next month, ranked as the draft's 16th-best prospect according to MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo, the 25th-best prospect per ESPN's Keith Law and the 45th-best in the eyes of Baseball America. Prior to the draft, Mayo wrote that Anderson, whose fastball touches 97 mph, may have boosted his stock more than any arm in this year's college class. Law notes that he faded down the stretch, perhaps due to over-usage, but has the potential for two plus pitches.

Anderson is the second college pitcher selected by the Dodgers in the past three drafts, as they also selected Stanford left-hander Chris Reed back in 2011 with the No. 16 overall pick. Both Anderson and second-round pick Tom Windle are Minnesota natives. Windle, a left-hander who attended the University of Minnesota, agreed to terms with Los Angeles last week. Anderson's deal means that there are now seven first-round picks who have signed just six days after the draft.

Draft Links: Day One Winners, Appel, Dodgers, M’s https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/06/draft-links-day-one-winners-appel-dodgers-ms.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/06/draft-links-day-one-winners-appel-dodgers-ms.html#respond Fri, 07 Jun 2013 08:20:54 +0000 http://localhost/mlbtraderumors/2013/06/draft-links-day-one-winners-appel-dodgers-ms.html Yesterday was the first day of Major League Baseball's amateur draft, and the Astros kicked things off by selecting Houston native Mark Appel with the No. 1 overall pick. MLBTR covered the draft extensively last night; Zach Links kept track of the first round results as well as the results from the first competitive balance round, and I hosted a draft chat that ran for nearly four hours, covering the entirety of the first round. Here's more on the first day of the draft…

  • ESPN's Keith Law (Insider required and recommended for Law's draft work) lists the Rays' selection of Ryne Stanek at No. 29 atop his list of picks he "loves" from yesterday's selections. He also lists his top 10 remaining talents, headlined by high school right-hander Kyle Serrano.
  • Appel gives the Astros a "native son to build the organization around," writes Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle. Appel told Smith that being selected by the Astros was "incredibly special" and "very exciting." He recalls the opening of Minute Maid Park as a child in 2000, and adds that most of his family still lives in Houston. GM Jeff Luhnow said Appel won't be rushed to the Majors, and Smith adds that late 2014 or early 2015 are realistic goals for his MLB debut.
  • Dodgers vice president of scouting Logan White told reporters, including MLB.com's Ken Gurnick, that the team views top picks Chris Anderson (Jacksonville University) and Tom Windle (University of Minnesota) as starters (Twitter link). The pair will not be rushed to the Majors as relievers like Paco Rodriguez was in 2012.
  • ESPN's Jerry Crasnick looks at some of the stories from day one of the draft, including the friendly rivalries between Georgia outfielders Clint Frazier and Austin Meadows and California infielders Dominic Smith and J.P. Crawford. "[Crawford is] just a great guy and a great person," Smith told Crasnick. "We're pretty tight. He's like my baseball brother."
  • Mariners scouting director Tom McNamara says that he doesn't prefer any specific type of player, but Dave Cameron of the U.S.S. Mariner points out that he leans toward polished college players. In four of his five drafts as scouting director McNamara has chosen Dustin Ackley, Danny Hultzen, Mike Zunino and now D.J. Peterson — all of whom were regarded as "safe bets."
