The Marlins announced that they signed corner outfielder Austin Kearns to a minor league deal that includes an invitation to Spring Training. SFX represents Kearns, who appeared in 57 games with the Indians in 2011.
The ten-year MLB veteran posted a .200/.302/.287 line in 174 plate appearances for the Indians last year, and got released in July. Kearns, a right-handed hitter, owns a career line of .254/.350/.417 and has historically had a little more success against left-handed pitching.

i like him better than Rowand. We have a lot of guys competing for reserve spots, so i dont get these signings lately. Dobbs and Bonifacio will be on the roster, with Cousins, Peterson, Coghlan competing for spots.

One of my favorite players, injuries robbed him of a good career

Saw him play for the Rockford Reds a 100 yrs ago. He was better that Dunn at that point.

He kinda still was better than Dunn last year.

I can’t see a spot on the Marlins’ active roster for Kearns. The Marlins bench will already have Dobbs, and Rowand is most likely to take the second bench spot. You already have LoMo, Stanton, Bonifacio, and maybe Coghlan, Petersen or Cespedes for the outfield, and I don’t think the Marlins don’t want two backup outfielders. I guess it’s nice to have a veteran just in case waiting in the minors, and he would make a decent September callup, but it looks like he’ll be spending more time in the minors next season.

wow, did the nacho stand guy quit or something?

Just their plan Z in case Cespedes signs elsewhere… It’s not exactly a good resume builder when the Indians release you
